Yesterday, we were reminded of how much God loves the church. In fact, God refers to the New Testament church as the bride of Christ. This metaphor expresses God's deep love and devotion to the church. In turn, the church exists to express love and devotion to God. In recent years, we have heard Pastor Rob use this statement: "You don't go to church, you are the church." The church is not a building, but rather it is people.
One of the priorities of our move to North Avenue is that we function as the church, not just that we enjoy a new building. We do not desire to be a country club, but a hospital. We are not a destination for those who appear to have it all together. To the contrary, we desire to be a place where the broken and hurting find grace and healing. Only weeks ago, Rob reminded us that our relocation doesn't mean we have accomplished anything. It simply positions us to accomplish something. It positions us to broaden our reach as God's church.
This week, we will read passages that speak of God's passion and purpose for the church. Take time each day to read the passage, write down some insights and pray for the church.
