Summer seems to be speeding by and it has been busy in the vineyard and the winery. We got through bloom and fruit set and the vines are growing like kudzu! These are photos of the Corot noir grapes taken in early June. You can see the individual grapes forming in the cluster.
In the winery, we have bottled several new red wines. For the 2006 vintage, the red table wine is now called Fox Red - and the fox is flying in a new biplane. The 2006 bordeaux blend is called Trio with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot in the mix. We also bottled the 2006 Cabernet Franc and 2006 Petit Verdot as varietal wines. These should all be available in the tasting room soon. The 2007 Viognier and 2007 Rosé are available only in the tasting room. Sadly, we don't have enough of either wine to take to festivals. There is a great special on the 2005 Merlot. It is piled up in the tasting room and selling for $100/case. When the stack is gone, so is the sale price....
Artist update: Barbara Wallace, who designs our wine labels ( and several other local labels as well) will be our next guest artist. She will be hanging her paintings in the tasting room the second week in July. There will be more information in our next newsletter.
June means it is time for the Nelson County Summer Festival. This is one of the few wine festivals we will be attending this summer - trying to stay local as we learn the ropes. This is a great way to save gas and try wines from all the Nelson County wineries with one trip. Hope to see you there.
We will be at both the Staunton Farmer's Market on Saturday mornings and the Waynesboro Farmer's Market on Wednesday afternoons. Remember to pick up local wine to have with your local produce for summer meals. Our 2005 Cabernet Franc goes with anything you put on the grill - salmon, chicken, burgers....
As usual, the tasting room is open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11-6:00pm. See our webpage for directions. |
