NTD's upcoming International Classical Chinese Dance Compeition was expressly proclaimed "off limits" for Chinese last week. But the competition's website became unblocked several days later. Why the contradiction? CCP factional infighting. The Political and Legislative Affairs Committee on the one side issued the "off limits" order. The PLAC fears NTD programs that expose crime and corruption, and, apparently, classical chinese dance. [Watch 1] On the other side are officials using their close access to the Great Firewall to expose the PLAC. Recently other websities even more taboo than dance competitions, (Tiananmen Square Massacre and organ harvesting from Falun Gong practitioners, for instance) have also been unblocked. [Watch 2]

SF Police Chief Greg Suhr said on Wednesday, 6/20 that recent incidents of Chinese men assaulting Falun Gong practitioners in Chinatown are being investigated, stating that hate crimes would not be tolerated. One assailant has already been charged with misdemeanor battery.
Four assaults over a two-
week period prompted practitioners in the Bay Area to ask authorities to also investigate whether the Chinese Consulate was involved as an instigator. Similar incidents have happened in Flushing, NY, where an undercover reporter recorded a Consulate official bragging about his role in inciting the assaults. [Watch]
