NTD Website Traffic Surges Following Chinese Official's Attempted Defection
On February 6, Chongqing's vice mayor, Wang Lijun, fled to the U.S. Consulate in Chengdu and allegedly sought asylum. Since the breaking this news, the Internet traffic from China to NTD's website has doubled. On average, more than 230,000 daily unique visitors came to NTD's website from Mainland China, with the peak at 350,000 visitors per day on February 10. 
Chinese netizens have been using anti-censorship tools, such as Freegate and Ultrasurf, to circumvent China's firewall systems to visit NTD website. NTD's news programs including China Forbidden News and Click Today are among the most viewed programs for these Mainland visitors. Chinese viewer Zhu Mingfan from Beijing wrote: "NTD opened my eyes on the Wang Lijun incident. I am delighted to see many different views on this subject from NTD, unlike the state-controlled media here which all tell the same lie."

On, Sunday January 28th, NTD held their first community event of the year here in New York celebrating the Chinese New Year and the Year of the Dragon with the Chinese community in Flushing to a packed crowd of over several hundred at the Sky View Center. NTD viewers and fans came together and raved about the quality of NTD programming and how much they enjoy watching our network.

Several of the NTD anchors including, Yingying Zhang, host of Estar, Anna Chang of Focus Talk, and Jenny Lee, host of Life Talk elaborated on the benefits of NTD and their plans for future elements of their program.In addition, performances spanning from a lion dance, a martial arts demonstration, and Han Couture fashion from our upcoming Han Couture Competition were on display to an extremely engaged and excited crowd.

The kingdom of the winds

Starting from February 20th, NTD broadcasts the 59-episode Korean historical drama series: The Kingdom of the Winds. The drama is about the life of the third King of Koguryeo, King Muhyul who was called the god of wars. The drama depicted Muhyul as a person who was born with a curse to kill his parents, siblings, son and destroy his own country.
This drama is a screen adaptation of a popular comic of the same title by Kim Jin, and won several awards of 2008 KBS Drama Awards.
