Winning Pieces from NTD's Painting Competition on Exhibit

NTD Television's bi-annual International Chinese Figure Painting Competition awarded this year's winners at the Salmagundi Art Club in New York City on November 28. Fifty-one paintings selected from among more than 140 submissions were put on exhibit from November 28 through December 3 at Salmagundi. On the opening night of the exhibition, Fred Ross, chairman of ArtRenewal.org, made an appearance together with 30 participating artists from around the world.
The competition was created for artists of Chinese descent to express traditional virtues and values through classical Western realistic painting methods. Since it began in 2008, it has provided a platform for classically trained artists to shine. "Creating a realistic painting is a painstaking and often lonely process. In a world filled with modern art, we thank NTD for redirecting the focus back on meaning, form and skill. The classical method is well worth preserving," said Gold Medal winner Michelle Chen at the awards reception.
