|

NTD Television's 10th Anniversary Benefit Gala - The Emperor's Banquet served up a luscious and lavish TEN-course feast. A combination of the finest of imperial China and the delicious delectables of 21st Century America were served. The Emperor's Banquet is the amazing culmination of NTD's International Chinese Culinary Competition, where the finest chefs of Chinese cuisine gathered from around the world for a two-day battle royale in Times Square.
The banquet celebrates five thousand years of Chinese history and culture, and freedom of the press, through the elegance and beauty of a New York gala. It was attended by a long list of VIP and celebrities. The evening honored Kerry Kennedy, president of The RFK Center for Justice & Human Rights and Benjamin Ismail, head of the Asia-Pacific Region for Reporters Without Borders. Food Network celebrity host Marc Summers served as a special host.

Over forty top chefs, from numerous countries and parts of the U.S., participated in this year's culinary competition. The winning chefs, in five distinctive Chinese regional cuisines, prepared the extraordinary meal at Pier 60. The evening also saw performances including a majestic Han Couture fashion show, an exciting sword play by Long Fei, and a captivating violin performance by Corin Lee. Together they represented some of the past winners of NTD's competition series.

Next Up: Martial Arts Competition
On Oct 8-9, NTD Television will present the International Chinese Traditional Martial Arts Competition. The competition aims to showcase genuine Chinese martial arts forms and styles, and promote the profound cultural content of martial arts to the public.
When: 9AM-5PM, Oct 8-9, 2011
Where: Baruch College ARC Arena, 55 Lexington Ave, Manhattan, NY
What to Expect:
- Watch real martial arts masters in action
- Learn history and background of different martial arts styles
- Take a free lesson from Chinese martial arts master
- Sample Chinese food, browse sponsor booths and much more!
Beside its amazing combat applications, Chinese traditional martial arts are used for nurturing health and longevity, improving physical condition, and uplifting mind and spirit. Traditional Chinese Martial Arts has 5,000 years of history. The Chinese character for Martial Arts is 武, which is composed of two individual characters: 止 (meaning 'stop') and 戈(meaning 'fight'). So it was clear from the very beginning of Chinese history that martial arts were meant to stop the violence, not to propagate it.
The modern Chinese history is full of painful turmoil. After mainland China became a communist state in 1949, and especially during the "Great Cultural Revolution (1966 - 1976)", Chinese Martial Arts has gone through an unprecedented tribulation. Traditional martial arts masters were labeled as "superstition promoters"; many of them were forced into hiding. In addition, the invention and promotion of "modern Wushu" as an alternative to traditional practice has also impeded the transmission of traditional martial arts. NTD's competition aims to reverse the tide and contribute to the furtherance of the traditional Chinese martial arts legacy.
