NTD's North American Distribution Rapidly Expands

In the past several months, NTD significantly expanded its footprint in North America. Starting October 18, 2010, more than 700 thousand subscribers in New York City's five boroughs, Long Island, upstate New York and New Jersey began receiving NTD signals on Verizon FiOS Channel 478.

In addition, NTD is now broadcasting on Verizon FiOs Channel 482 and WDCW Channel 50.3 in Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia. This came on the heels of NTD programming becoming available in Hawaii in July, where NTD became the first 24/7 basic Chinese channel on Hawaii's Oceanic Time Warner Cable.

In Toronto, NTD has been broadcasting on Canada's new Bell Fibe TV (channel 727) since October. The 24/7 NTD programs are now available to subscribers in Toronto and Montreal, the two largest cities in Canada. NTD has also been available on two other Canadian carriers, Rogers Cable (channel 817) and Novus (channel 340), since 2008.

This growth reflects successful implementation of NTD's strategic plan by our management over the past few years. With this additional coverage and viewership, NTD is fast becoming the leading Chinese TV broadcaster in North America.

Asia Brief - NTD's Flagship English News Program

asia brief

Asia Brief is one of NTD's two daily English news programs, broadcast globally via satellite, cable, and the Internet. The program provides breaking news on events that take place throughout Asia and Asia Pacific. A special feature of Asia Brief is its coverage of social issues and unrest inside mainland China. Because of NTD's unique position as one of the few Chinese media outlets not funded or influenced by the Chinese regime, many citizens inside China send footage to or contact NTD with breaking news stories that would otherwise go unreported.

Asia Brief broadcasts in New York on Time Warner Cable Channel 589 at 1:30 p.m.

Julliard School Student Takes Gold - 2010 Chinese International Violin Competition

NTD President Lee Zhong presents the Gold Award to 2010 Chinese International Violin Competition winner Corin Lee

After a weekend of intense competition, Corin Lee, from The Juilliard School, took the top honors at NTD Television's Third Chinese International Violin Competition: a $5,000 grand prize and a specially-crafted violin.

Contestants started the competition with pieces by Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven, and wrapped up the contest with Paganini's Caprices-among the most technically demanding works written for the violin. But it was Mr. Lee's rendition of a specially commissioned piece, "Dedu," which means "Be Saved" in Chinese, that made him the judges' top pick, according to Judge Chia-Chi Lin.

"In other competitions, they are looking for mostly virtuoso players. But I think what's different with our competition is that we are looking for a special kind of character, and it's beauty, and sincere, and honesty. And I think Corin Lee has that quality in him. He has that honesty-he plays the way he feels, and comfortably too," she said.

NTD Holds Community Events in NYC to Promote Viewership

With the launch of NTD Television on Time Warner, Verison FiOS and WMBC 63.5, Chinese Americans in Metro New York can now enjoy round-the-clock Chinese language TV programming. To get the word out to the New York Chinese community, NTD staged two promotional events in Manhattan and Queens on October 24 and October 30 respectively.

In the Manhattan Chinatown event, noted Chinese medicine expert Dr. Naiwen Hu conducted a lively Q&A session on health and diet. Anchors from NTD's Mandarin and Cantonese news programs also dropped by to mingle with community members.

A week later in Flushing, Queens, District 20 Councilman Peter Koo showed up to commend NTD for its service to the Chinese community: "[NTD] brought us a lot of local news, as well as international news. Its reporting on Taiwan and Mainland China are very detailed. For many Chinese immigrants who don't speak English, they rely on this reporting to understand what takes place in the world. Thank you. Our audiences thank NTD Television."

NTD staff demonstrated how to install an over-the-air antenna to watch NTD's digital signal on WMBC 63.5. After seeing the ease of installation and the clarity of the signal, audiences were excited to have a free TV channel they can call their own. All of the antennae available for sale from NTD staff were snatched up in no time at all.
