 NTD Anchor: Henny Russo

This month NTD's Indonesian-language news launched its second local cable broadcast of weekly world news, called "Fokus Dunia," or "What the world is focusing on."

On October 8, "Fokus Dunia," anchored by New York-based Henny Russo, started broadcasting on Bali's ATV (Alam Bali TV). This follows the program's broadcast on CTV (Cahaya TV) in Indonesia's capital Jakarta in mid-September.

Ms. Russo says her team hopes to broadcast "Focus Dunia" extensively to Indonesian-speaking people in the future, particularly in places like Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam.

"Locals in Indonesia say our news is interesting and unique, giving them different perspectives and stories from around the world. The viewers have told us: 'We don't get news like this from other TV stations here,'" Ms. Russo says.
NTD also produces world news programs in Chinese Mandarin, Cantonese, English, Russian andHebrew.

2010 Global Han Couture Design Competition Concluded

hanfu gold Winna Lam, the Gold winner whose Tang Dynasty-inspired gown was awarded $10,000, walks around the stage with her model.

The Third Global Han Couture Design Competition was held October 16 at New York's Metropolitan Pavilion. More than 200 designs were submitted by contestants from the U.S., Europe, Southeast Asia, Taiwan, Hong Kong and China. Seventeen of these received awards from the competition's judges. This year's gold medal and $10,000 prize was awarded to Winna Lam of the U.S. for her design titled "Invitation from Heaven."

Head judge Lu Wei complimented the quality of this year's designs, saying that the contest pieces have surpassed those from past years in terms of traditional design, material quality and accessory ensemble.

"We have seen a great maturation in designs, in presenting the classical essence of traditional Chinese clothing," she says.

"Ancient people were very wise," says bronze prize winner Ya-Chi Zhan of Taiwan. "They can use very simple designs to create clothing that suits any occasion. Especially for ladies, there can be so many variations. From books, I learned that in the Tang Dynasty alone there were over 200 variations in design. I feel that as long as we put our hearts into it, Han couture will become very popular."

The next Han couture competition will be held in 2012.
