Taste the Authentic China
And Watch the Best Chinese Chefs Battle it Out in Times Square

culinary

The clock is counting down to the grandest cultural festivity NTD has ever produced. Our production team is busy making the final preparations for the third annual International Chinese Culinary Competition, to be held in Manhattan's Times Square on September 30 and October 1.

Following the competition, winners will collaborate on a 10-course traditional Chinese banquet at Pier 60 on Sunday, October 3, to celebrate the competition's award ceremony. Having witnessed the various dishes made during the competition, you can now feast on the best dishes from China's top five culinary styles: the tingly spiciness of Szechuan, the variety of Shandong, the refinement of Cantonese, the fine fish of Huaiyang, and the earthiness of the Northeast. Cheer on the chefs as the competition winners are announced, and enjoy the evening's cultural entertainment and silent auctions.

Invite your foodie friends to a fun-filled evening of food and wine. Tickets to the banquet are $275 per person or $2,500 for a table of 10. Please visit

After one year of preparation, NTD kicked off its 2010 competition series with the International Vocal Competition August 20-22 and the International Classical Chinese Dance Competition September 10-12. Assembling from 10 countries, 28 and 40 contestants qualified for the final rounds of the vocal and dance competitions respectively.

Interviewed after the dance competition, judging committee member Yungchia Chen said that he had witnessed a marked increase in the caliber of competition at this year's event.  "Some past champions returned in this year's competition. We see that they have become more mature in their technique. There are also many excellent new contestants."

Because classical Chinese dance has a large repertoire of movements and gestures, it can very effectively tell stories and express emotions. Many of the performances in the competition were inspired by well-known tales from Chinese history and legend.

College Fair Reveals Tips for University Admission

NTD Television and the Epoch Times newspaper jointly held the first ever Greater Los Angeles College Fair in Arcadia, CA, on September 12. With recruiters from top national universities, such as Harvard, Yale, University of Chicago, Penn, Cal Tech, UC Berkeley and UCLA in attendance, the event attracted over 1,500 high school students and their parents.

Speakers at the fair provided tips on the admissions criteria used by various schools in reviewing applicants, as well as the types of financial aid that were available to students of different academic and financial backgrounds.

For many first-generation Chinese immigrants, these seminars gave them a valuable glimpse into the contrast between admissions criteria for universities in the U.S. and China. One Chinese parent said: "Today the experts provided a lot of insight. It's a very constructive educational experience for all of us."
