NTD Lands in Washington D.C.
Starting July 30, viewers in Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia began receiving NTD's digital free-to-air signal on WDCW Channel 50.3. Then on August 17, subscribers to the DC area Verizon FiOS also gained access to NTD's programming on FiOS Channel 482. These launches come on the heels of NTD's multi-lingual channel kicking off in Hawaii at the beginning of July 2010.
NTD's Senior Vice President of public relations and development Samuel Zhou says NTD's rapid growth is a reflection of cultural diversity in the U.S. and the growing demand for independent information in Chinese language media.
NTD spokesperson Carrie Hung is equally enthusiastic. "With the WDCW signal reaching over 6.1MM people over the air, and FiOS signal available to 285,000 households, we look forward to bringing our quality cultural programming to audiences in the DC area -- and winning new fans," she says. |

Best Chinese Chefs Prepare to Battle it Out in Times Square
The grandeur of China's great Tang Dynasty will dominate Times Square in NYC this September 30 and October 1, as the world's best Chinese chefs compete in the third-annual NTD International Chinese Culinary Competition.
This is the first year NTD has taken the International Culinary Competition outdoors, allowing more people to see first-hand the high-speeding slicing, and fast-paced frying, needed for traditional Chinese cuisine preparation.
To add to the excitement, Times Square will be dressed up like Chang'an, the capital city of the great Tang Dynasty, over the two-day competition. Even the waiting staff will don specially-designed traditional costumes. Rubenstein Public Relations will manage the publicity of this year's event, including the Award Ceremony Banquet at Pier Sixty in NYC.
NTD has proudly presented the Global Competition series since 2007. Dedicated to the renaissance of traditional Chinese and celebrating the very best of Western culture, this series is a continuation of NTD's effort to facilitate the exchange of cultural ideas between East and West.

"A Decade of Courage" Wins Award
NTD-produced documentary "A Decade of Courage" was recently highlighted at two film festivals in Europe. At the 12th Annual Detective Fest International Film and Television Festival in Moscow the film picked up an award in the thematic category: "Terrorism-threat to the world - terrorism, extremism, xenophobia, racial and religious hatred." The documentary was also an official selection at the 2010 Kastav Film Festival in Croatia and shown in the Kastav's Main Square as part of the festival.
"A Decade of Courage" was written and edited by Jo Burgess, and produced by Kaman Pun and Kevin Koo. It outlines defining moments during the popular upsurge and resulting persecution of Falun Gong in China, and gives context to the political climate that has allowed the malicious and the brutal campaign against Falun Gong to continue through the present day. "A Decade of Courage" has been translated into Russian, Spanish, French, and Hebrew. A Farsi translation is currently underway. The English version is currently available on www.adecadeofcourage.com and www.amazon.com

NTD's Humorous News Program Honored
At the recent semi-annual NTD staff conference in Washington DC, NTD President Zhong Lee unveiled the winner of this year's Audiences' Favorite Program Award. The honor went to the production team for "Decoded: Mainland News" (大陸新聞解讀). Set in a news-program format, the show's host Yan Zhen interprets the news released by China's state-run media in a comical and satirical way.
Drawing on materials from popular sayings, songs and jokes that reflect everyday life in China, the show uses humor to portray the inequities that exist in today's Chinese society. "Decoded: Mainland News" pierces the facade of infallibility that the Chinese Communist Party attempts to project through its official mouthpieces.
Producing two new episodes each week, "Decoded: Mainland News" gives overseas Chinese audiences a lighthearted yet incisive look at current events in China.
