Jasmine Hanifi |
For the coming academic year, three Tufts-MMC medical
students will join the Seaport Family Practice. First year student Jasmine Hanifi began her medical
education with a 3-day orientation here in August. She has returned to Boston
to finish her basic science curriculum beofre returning in April. Jasmine was raised in Falmouth, and her parents emigrated
from Afghanistan in 1982. She graduated from Stanford University with an
English degree. She has completed research in the muscle biology lab at Palo Alto
Veterans' Affairs Hospital and worked as a resident assistant while in college.
In her spare time, Jasmine has been working on a creative nonfiction book about
her family's experience in Afghanistan and their escape in 1979 after the
Soviet invasion. |
David Skavdahl | Second year student David Skavdahl returns to SFP in
September. This year, David will spend Mondays and Tuesdays in Belfast every
other week. David grew up in rural Washington State and graduated from
Seattle Pacific University with a combined degree in Biology and Philosophy. He
has a varied background: he worked with the Philadelphia TB Control Program,
owned and operated a small contracting business for three years, and is
certified as a Wilderness EMT. His wife works in Topsham, ME as a naturopath. First year student Linsey Waite completed her orientation
and will join Jasmine Hanifi at our office in April. We will post her photograph
and a more complete bio very soon. Please welcome Jasmine, David and Linsey. Belfast will be
their "clinical" home for the four years of their medical education.
The purpose of educating medical students outside of Boston and Portland is to
improve recruitment for rural areas, and to show them that the highest quality
health care can be delivered in communities like Belfast. - The Staff of Seaport Family Practice, P.A.
