NACCHO's HIV/STI Prevention "Tool or Model Practice of the Week"

This week's featured tool from NACCHO's Toolbox is Community School-Based Sexual Education Programs Data Collection Instrument developed by the Philadelphia Department of Public Health. This tool is desgined to collect information about the sexual health education activities conducted by community organizations in public high schools.

Save the Date: May 15 Webinar to Launch NACCHO's New Online STD Program Adaptation and Partner Engagement Resource Kit

On Tuesday, May 15 at 3:00 PM EDT, NACCHO will host a webinar to launch our new STD Program Adaptation and Partner Engagement Resource Kit. The online Resource Kit will feature five local health department STD program models and provide tools, resources, and lessons learned in the development and implementation of each program. During the webinar, representatives from each LHD will talk about their program and NACCHO staff will review how to access and use the Resource Kit.

STD Awareness Month: Article Highlights LHD Role in STI Prevention and Control   

Brian Bongner, STI Program Manager at the Lake County Health Department and Community Health Center and Chair of NACCHO's HIV/STI Prevention Workgroup, wrote an article for the RH Reality Check STD Awareness Month series. In the article, which was published in partnership with the National Coalition of STD Directors (NCSD), Brian highlights the crucial role local health departments play in STI prevention and control and addresses the difficulty of rising caseloads in a time of dwindling resources. Upcoming IDCareLive Virtual CME on HIV & Hepatitis C laptop and books

Webinar on 2010 STD Treatment Guidelines: Update on Sexual Health in MSM  

The CDC's Division of STD Prevention, Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention, and the National Network of STD/HIV Training Centers will host a webinar about the 2010 STD Treatment Guidelines focusing on the sexual health of men who have sex with men (MSM). The webinar will include presentations by three experts in the field of sexual health and HIV/STD prevention and clinical care. Viewers will be able to submit questions in advance and during the webinar for a discussion session with the panelists. The webinar will be held on Thursday, June 7 from 12-1:30 PM EDT. Subscribe to CDC E-Mail Updates about the YRBSS

CDC's Division of Adolescent and School Health has set up a Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS) e-mail distribution list. E-mails will include information about new data products, questionnaire updates, new publications, and improved analysis tools. To subscribe, go to the YRBSS web site and click on the "Get email updates" link in the upper right corner of the screen. After entering your e-mail address, you will be directed to a list of subscription options. Scroll down and check the box by "Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance" under the NCHHSTP heading and then click "Save" at the bottom of the page.  

2005-2010 BRFSS Web-Enabled Analysis Tool Data Now Available

The CDC's Behavioral Risk Surveillance Branch has released the 2005-2010 data on the online Web-Enabled Analysis Tool (WEAT). The WEAT allows for analysis using several distinct variables from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS). Users can do logistic and cross-tabulation analyses using data for the entire nation or by state. To access the WEAT BRFSS data, click here.
