NACCHO's HIV/STI Prevention "Tool or Model Practice of the Week"

This week's featured tool from NACCHO's Toolbox is a Reportable Disease Investigation Protocol  developed by the Polk County Health Department. This tool provides general guidance for the investigation of reportable diseases.  Topics covered include record retention, safety in the field, investigation procedures, Internet notification, text messages, and special considerations.  

STD Awareness Month Twitter Chat with CDC Director Tom Frieden 

CDC Directwomen with laptopor Dr. Tom Frieden will host a live Twitter chat on STD prevention and young people with Dr. Gail Bolan, Director of CDC's Division of STD Prevention. The Twitter chat will take place on Monday, April 23 at 1:00 PM EDT. To join the discussion, follow @DrFriedenCDC and @CDCSTD on Twitter. Use the hash tag: #CDCchat.   

STD Awareness Month Materials 

April is STD Awareness Month. Continue honoring the month by bringing attention to STD awareness in your area. The National Coalition of STD Directors (NCSD) produced materials, including a sample op-ed and a sample STD Awareness Month Recognition Resolution, to help you do so. UCHAPS Board of Directors Seeking Nominations for Candidates  

The Urban Coalition for HIV/AIDS Prevention Services (UCHAPS) is currently accepting nominations for candidates for open seats on the Board of  Directors. For more information on the Board of Directors responsibilities, selection criteria, and for the nomination form, click here. The deadline to submit nomination forms, personal statements, and resumes is Monday, April 30.  

Updated HHS Adult and Adolescent Antiretroviral Treatment Guidelines 

The Department of Health and Human Services Panel on Antiretroviral Guidelines for Adults and Adolescents recently released updated Guidelines for the Use of Antiretroviral Agents in HIV-1 Infected Adults and Adolescents. The guidelines include a new section on managing older HIV-infected patients and a new table showing monthly average wholesale prices for brand and generic HIV drugs, as well as key updates to existing sections. 

Webinar on EHR Adoption in Underserved Communities   

The National Assembly on School-Based Health Care (NASBHC) is hosting a webinar on lessons learned from adopting electronic health records (EHRs) in underserved communities. The panelists will discuss their findings using the MedPlus/OMH vendor donation program in a Houston Latino community. The webinar will be held on Thursday, April 26 from 1-2:00 PM EDT.
