March is National Talk to Your Teen about Sex Month

Youth can make responsible decisions about sex when they have accurate, culturally relevant, and developmentally appropriate information, skills, and resources, as well as support from parents and other adults. Engaging youth in discussions about sex and sexuality is important for preventing HIV, other STIs, and unintended pregnancy. Information on adolescent sexual health and engaging youth can be found on NACCHO's HIV/STI Prevention Resources web page and in NACCHO's HIV/STI Toolkit. Examples of tools and resources include Opportunity Knocks: Using Teachable Moments to Convey Safer Sex Messages to Young People, Teen Friendly Office Tips, and Boston's SexEd Campaign for Youth

A study published recently in the Journal of Neurological Science found that the presence of hepatitis C virus co-infection among individuals also infected with HIV increased neurologic disease burden and the risk of death. The findings of this study underscore the importance of preventing and treating co-infection among the HIV-infected population. Read the study here.
