NACCHO's HIV/STI Prevention "Tool or Model Practice of the Week"

This week's featured model practice from NACCHO's Model Practice Database is the Strike Team from the Houston Department of Health and Human Services. The Strike Team aims to improve syphilis case rates, identify and remove barriers to care through mobile screening, and improve the overall health of Houstonians, particularly minorities who are most affected. 

2012-2013 NACCHO Advisory Groups

Free Mail-Order Condom Program Serves California Counties  

teenagersThe Condom Access Project, with support from California Department of Public Health's STD Control Branch, allows youth between the ages of 12 and 19 in many California counties go online and order one free package per month containing 10 condoms, lubricant, and health information. Grant Opportunity: Enhancing Quality HIV Care for Transgender Women of Color 

This grant program is designed to improve the overall quality of HIV care for transgender women of color. Grantees will be eligible to receive up to $300,000 a year for five years to serve as demonstration sites that will design, implement, and evaluate interventions to improve timely entry, engagement, and retention in quality HIV care for transgender women of color. Applicants for this funding must be public or private non-profit entities including state, county and city governments. The application deadline is April 16, 2012. Cervical Cancer App  

"Cause the Movement," a Cervical Cancer-Free Kentucky Initiative education and prevention campaign, developed this app, which incorporates users' personal photos into an educational video on cervical cancer. The group was founded through a partnership with the Rural Cancer Prevention Center at the University of Kentucky College of Public Health to reduce cervical cancer's impact on the state.
