The NACCHO and Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs (AMCHP) programs, with the support of the Annie E. Casey Foundation (AECF) formed a partnership to fund and support teams of state and local public health practitioners to tackle the issue of teen pregnancy and/or HIV/STI infection in a local community within their respective states. This webcast, to be held December 10 at 3:00 (EDT), will highlight the activities, barriers, successes and lessons learned of two State-Local teams-Colorado and South Carolina-involved in this initiative. Advocates for Youth Releases Publication about HIV Disparities Advocates for Youth has recently released a publication called Understanding Disparities in the HIV Epidemic: How Social and Cultural Forces Lead to Unequal Risk for African Americans/Blacks. This resource describes the role of social networks, increased STI morbidity in African-American communities, incarceration and other factors as contributors to higher rates of HIV infection in this population. FDA Issues Condom Labeling Guidance
A review of scientific information and of existing latex condom labeling by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) concluded that existing latex condom labeling is medically accurate in presenting the conclusion that, overall, condoms are effective in reducing the risk of STIs.
