Two Great Authors + One Great Chef = An Event Not to be Missed

The sum of the parts add up to what's sure to be a fantastic event.

Liza Donnelly ("When Do They Serve the Wine?") and Mary Randolph Carter ("A Perfectly Kept House is the Sign of a Misspent Life") are both incredibly talented and fascinating women - each with a wonderful sense of humor that comes through in both of their books.

When Joan asked chef, Job Yacubian, to come up with some food tastings for this booksigning and grazing event, he rose to the challenge; completing an impressive trio with this incredible menu of tastings.

"I love my Bank!" Why Keeping it Local Works

Just a few days ago, I got an email from Salisbury Bank & Trust with the subject line "Eight Reasons to Shop Locally".  Of course I opened it because the subject is near and dear to my heart.

Like Salisbury Bank, we at Hammertown believe that keeping things local is key to the success of our businesses, our economy and our community.

It's a Wonderful Inn!

Falls Village Inn...A Christmas Gift for a Whole Community

When Colin Chambers and Susan Sweetapple purchased the inn at Falls Village this past year, little did they know an angel was about to descend on them -- and her name was Bunny Williams.  Bunny ("An Affair with a House") lives in Falls Village and the prospect of new owners and a new life for the dormant inn (which had been dark for 4 years) became exciting to her.  And, I was fortunate enough to become part of the group that helped furnish the Falls Village Inn.  Read more...

This Week's Recipe: Date Bars

This classic comes from The Gourmet Cookie Book: The Single Best Recipe from Each Year 1941-2009

This was the first postwar cookie to appear in Gourmet (in 1945), which makes it momentous. Moist, chewy, and sweet, they will remind you of something your grandmother might have made for the holidays.

And speaking of holidays, The Gourmet Cookie Book is available at Hammertown and would make a wonderful gift for that baker you love!

SPECIAL BONUS HOLIDAY RECIPE:  Swedish Ginger Cookies (Pepparkakor)

I asked Joan if I could include this traditional Swedish Ginger Cookie recipe in honor of my hometown: "Lindsborg, Kansas...Little Sweden U.S.A."  This weekend (Dec. 11th) they will be celebrating  Santa Lucia Day with a town festival.  It includes the crowning of St. Lucia (with a crown of lit candles...and it's scary because in Lindsborg the candles...and flames are real!).  She is usually the eldest daughter of the family.  This is followed by a parade down Main Street to the Swedish Lutheran Church  where there's lots of Scandinavian food...including these Ginger Cookies.  -- (Auntie M)

Coming Soon...Big Fun for Kids and Adults: "The Boy and the Moon" Reading & Activities

Too cold to send your little ones out to play?

Join us on Sunday, December 19th from 2-3:30 for a reading and crafts with local author James Christopher.  Jim will be reading from his new book - his first for children, "The Boy and the Moon".  The wonderful illustrations in the book are based on his collages and he will lead a craft activity for kids (4-6) about making collages.
