Mary Randolph Carter will be at Hammertown Barn next week with cartoonist/author, Liza Donnelly and Chef Job Yacubian for a "Grazing & Booksigning Event" (click here for details). In anticipation of her visit she generously agreed to spend some time talking with us last week.
There are many reasons to love Mary Randolph Carter (known by friends and family as "Carter"). My most recent reason is that she has absolved me of guilt about the state of my desk at work.

 This book is a journey through hundreds of 'hometowns' that fueled the American appetite, recipe by recipe, bite by bite. It's a big volume of recipes, a great read, a must for your library which I highly recommend. And, a great gift for any "foodie".
This Chicken Fricassee recipe is a classic and comes from a law clerk in St. Louis, MO. While researching the food preferences of the American presidents, he first learned of Jefferson's penchant for fine food. This recipe is a perfect demonstration of how Jefferson "brought America into the modern food era."

Ever wonder what a vegetable farmer does all winter? Well Hammertown's favorite CSA owner, Andy Szymanowicz, of Sol Flower Farm is not only a fine farmer he's an amazing decorator!!
Andy offered to create his unique natural designs for our holiday decorating at Hammertown Barn. He just finished the Gatehouse and the front of the Barn and will also be decorating our Hammertown Kitchen. The installations he created are incredibly unique and beautiful...And he can do it for your winter holidays, too.
