Geophytes: Nature's underground self-storage bins
Geophytes are storage organs that plants use to protect themselves from harsh winter conditions. They allow plants to store all of their energy through very dry or cold seasons and pop back out to grow and reproduce when conditions are desirable again. Crocus, tulip, daffodils--all would prefer to be left in the ground and are able to survive the Northeast winters.
