Love Where You Live - A Work in Progress


Anyone who's ever been in Hammertown Barn can tell how much I love home design books. I can sit with a good design book for hours and get lost in the beautiful photographs.

That's why I'm so excited to tell you about a home design book project I'm working on with writer, Abby Westlake.

Lynn Karlin's Stunning New Photography Exhibit Opens at Hammertown Barn & Rhinebeck on November 13th


I saw these amazing photos and met Lynn on a recent visit to Maine. Originally from New York, Lynn was the first woman staff photographer for WWD and W. She was also a freelance photographer for The New York Times Magazine, New York Magazine, House Beautiful and Country Living before moving to Maine in 1983.


Both Hammertown Pine Plains and Hammertown Rhinebeck will present a selection of work by Maine Photographer Lynn Karlin: The Pedestal Series from November 13 - January 2011.

Winter Composting

Believe it or not this can be done all winter long but the bin should be at least one cubic yard in size and will need a lid.

Use the same materials as you would throughout the summer but with a different approach. As with composting in the spring and summer heat and air are very important for the breakdown of materials.

This Week's Recipe: Wild Mushroom Soup with Sherry


Thanks to Job Yacubian of The Farmer's Wife for this winner.  This is a recipe you'll want to save for Thanksgiving or any special meal.  It tastes delicious and the consistency is smooth and buttery.  The sherry adds an elegance to the soup that I like a lot.
