Joan's pick: Save Summer...in a Bag!
I just spent a few days with my
friend, Vicki, in Maine. She owns a
kitchen store called The Good
Table in Belfast, Maine. While I was there she introduced me to a
couple new products she uses in her store. #1 - PEAKfresh Produce
Bags. I've seen these bags advertised here and there - claiming to keep
fruits, vegetables, herbs and other foods fresh for weeks but I never
really thought they would work. Well apparently, they do so I've
started to carry them in our stores. #2 - Artisan Bread Bags (at the Barn & Rhinebeck
right now) Baguettes fit perfectly in these bags so if you don't use the whole loaf
or want to buy two, just pop them in these bread bags and they'll stay
fresh for over 2 weeks. Click here to read more....

Doodletown Farm-The Final Episode: Where There Was
Mud
This is, sadly, the last episode in an eight part series chronicling Bob
& Jack as they brought an 18th Century farmhouse into the 21st
Century. In fact, tears came to my eyes at the very end...oh my, I will miss you Bob & Jack!
You promised though you will be back, and I'll be all over you in a
month or two to be our local correspondents again. As far as I'm concerned, you are the reigning Kings of DIY!

In the Garden with Danielle - "Oh no...I've got
tomato cracks!"
There are a few reasons our tomatoes crack this time of
the year. The
fluctuation of temperatures and rain fall are two of the most common.
However, we can't blame mother nature and her micro-climates entirely
because there are ways we can prevent it.

This Week's Seasonal Recipe: Freeze Pesto Now for a
Taste of Summer All Year
All this hot
weather lately has caused a lot of our basil to bolt so of
course it's time to start thinking about making pesto. Which means it's
also time to think about how to save this unmistakable taste of bright
summer days for those dark, cold days of winter ahead. Freezing pesto
is easy and it really does preserve that taste of summer.
