This year's Early Bird Tent Sale Donations for a New Playground in Ancram

Every Tent Sale we choose a not-for-profit organization as beneficiaries of our $40 Early Bird Shopping entrance donation.  This year, we're donating all of the proceeds to the Ancram Playground Fund. Remember, your donation is fully tax-deductible.  As an Ancram resident, I'm very excited about supporting this project. Many of the young mom's on my staff have told me how much Ancram needs a playground so we're proud to be helping.  More...

A touch of theatre comes to Hammertown Cooking Classes

Last Sunday in our final Spring cooking class: "Creamy Pressure Cooker Risotto in 7 Minutes", Mary Murfitt (theater professional & Hammertown's website editor & blogger) brought her theatrical skills to the Gatehouse ...props and all.  Even before the class started, many in attendance expressed their underlying fear about pressure cookers exploding in their mothers' and grandmothers' kitchens.

Hammertown Garden: Nature's Fertilizers and Insecticides


Don't run to the compost bin just yet to fertilize your plants.  You can reuse plant clippings , kitchen waste...and yes, even beer to not only help fertilize plants but also fight disease or get rid of unwanted bugs.  Here are a couple tips:
  • Your potted plants would love some beer! Rinse out the bottles into the soil, the plants will love the nourishment of the yeast.

  • After deadheading your geraniums place the wilted flowers under you grapevines to help deter Japanese Beetles.

I am volunteering to make salad dressing for the annual Ancramdale Neighbors Helping Neighbors Pig Roast/Chicken BBQ. 

I usually make my own favorite dressing, but at our Farm to Table Dinner with Job Yacubian, the entire class was begging for the vinaigrette recipe on his arugula salad so I asked Job if he would share it with us...and he did!
