HOLIDAY GIFT-GIVING -- THE FINAL 12!

Okay...we're coming into the home stretch and if you still haven't finished your holiday shopping here's my homage to that old holiday song "The 12 Days of Christmas" - I've  got 12 great gift ideas for you in a whole range of prices.

Here we go...

chaleff1) Paul Chaleff  Collection. This internationally recognized ceramicist, has created a collection of functional porcelain platters and vessels just for Hammertown.  Each piece is truly a work of art and would be cherished by whoever is lucky enough to receive it.pressure-cooker

2) One of my all-time favorites:  the Kuhn-Rikon Pressure Cooker. The New York Times calls this the Cadillac of Pressure Cookers.   And, coming next year to the Gatehouse, we'll be having classes on the Art of Pressure-Cooking (including how to make delicious 7 minute risotto!)

3) Last week's pick of the week, Baby Alpaca Cape (click here to see), has been a big hit.  We also have gorgeous throws made out of the same super soft fleece.  Beautiful and warm.

bracelets4) Anything from our jewelry case...from $15 bangle bracelets (which look like they cost 10 times more) to stunning artisnal blown glass jewelry, made in New York (click here)!

gloves5) Sheepskin Gloves in a wonderful array of colors.  These really are warm and who doesn't always need another pair of gloves?

6) A great last minute gift for the kids.  Almost every toddler who comes up to the Kid's section at the Barn plays with these  Shopping Carts. They're so real looking...kids just love them!

7) We have a terrific and eclectic selection of books.  Everything from design books...to cookbooks...children's books...humorous books...we've got something for everyone!

8)  More to keep you warm...women's cashmere socks (click here)! Enough said.

camembert1-300x3009) Assorted Cheeses from the Amazing Real Live Food Co. Start with the best local Camembert you've ever had; combine that with one of their herbed Farmers Cheeses and you've got the beginning of a fantastic Hammertown Gift Basket.  Add a cheese knife...a bread board...chocolates...mustards...cocktail napkins.  It will look like it took you months to put it together!

vervacious-tall10) Speaking of Food...Vervacious (click here)! It was the NY Food Show's pick and it's ours too.  These wonderful salts, seasonings, condiments and vinegars have been a favorite of mine for a couple years now and they still are.  Stack them...add them to a cheese basket (see #9) or create your own.

lecreuset11) For the Cook you love, you'll be a real hero if you put ANYTHING Le Creuset under the tree... the Oval French Baker, a saute pan are must haves.  You'll also score big with a Cuisinart Slow Cooker or Hand-Blender.

12) For the still-undecided:  A Hammertown Gift Card wrapped in a beautiful linen cloth...simple and elegant.  Who wouldn't want to start the year with some extra money to spend at Hammertown!?

'Tis the season to be generous

Extraordinary times inspire extraordinary generosity!

neighbor-to-neighbor

We're all stressed about the state of the economy...health care...politics.   We complain that we just don't have as much as we used to.  But there are many among us who are caught up in things other than finding that perfect gift or a fabulous resort...they are caught up with the most basic needs:  putting food on the table; paying their heating bill; paying their rent; providing warm clothing for their kids; paying doctor's bills, car insurance.  These are real people who are struggling and they're also our neighbors.

So this season I'm encouraging all of you to remember your favorite charities.  Mine happens to be the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation's Neighbor to Neighbor Fund. What I like about this particular fund is the money Hammertown donates goes directly into our community - right away - to support the immediate needs of our neighbors who need help.  The elderly...children...single mothers...the unemployed... all are benefiting from this fund right now.  Click here to read more...
