Greetings!
Happy Leap Year!!!
Today is Leap Day, and it officially begins the Leap Year. The extra day creates a balance for the calendar. A year is not, solarly and lunarly speaking, 365 days. It's 365.25 days. So an extra day was added every four years to keep seasons and our calendars from slipping out of alignment.
The Leap part comes in from comparing last years calendar to this years. For example, my birthday was on a Friday last year. In the typical progression of the years, my birthday would be on a Saturday this year. But because it's a Leap Year, it will be on a Sunday. Saturday got "leaped" over. Once we hit March 1, 2013, the regular progression will start again.
Leap Year gives us an extra day to celebrate the things we enjoy: Roses, adventure, gardens, whatever! Don't think of it as an extra day to give things done - think of it as a gift of a day to enjoy! Slainte, Joanne Tartaglino & Cindy Bitowf
