Fighting the Flakes

As winter finally tightens it's grip on the northeast, we begin to actually feel the beating our skin takes. It gets flaky, itchy, dry and yucky. But you can help your skin stay smooth by doing just a few simple things.

As always - stay properly hydrated. Water is the key ingredient to good health and a healthy glow.

Remember the moisturizer! A good moisturizer (like our Lotion Bars and Body Butters) not only nourish your skin but protect if from the elements as well.

Use a humidifier if your home or office is too dry from constant heat. If the air feels dry so will your skin.

Get plenty of sleep. It not only give your body time to rejuvenate, but your spirit as well.

Remember to exfoliate, Removing dead skin cells helps keep your pores open and clear, giving your new skin the chance to shine. Our Honey Pumpkin Face Mask is a gentle and beneficial face exfoliant, and our sugar scrubs are wonderful for all of the rest of you.

The Herb of the Year...Rugosa Rose

The Amazing Rose

I was a late bloomer when it came to my appreciation of roses. I'm still not a big fan of some of the fussy hybrids, but I do now love roses. That's why it's so exciting that the International Herb Association has selected the Rose as the Herb of the Year.

Throughout the year, I'll be sending you rosey tidbits here and on our blog and Facebook pages.

To get things started, here's a little rose trivia:

  •  Archaeologists have discovered the fossilized remains of wild roses over 40 million years old.
  • The Rose is the National Floral Emblem of the United States.
  • The world's oldest living rose bush is thought to be 1,000 years old. Today it continues to flourish on the wall of the Hildesheim Cathedral of Germany.
  • Queen of Egypt - Cleopatra's palace is said to have been carpeted in rose petals.

More rosy goodness to come!

Where Will We Be This Year?

Last year was a very busy one for Cindy and I. We went to fairs and festivals throughout the state, having a blast at each and Allaire Booth set upe
very one of them. Many were ones we've been to before (Cape May Wine Festival, Barnegat Bay Festival, Beach Plum Festival, and others). Some were new venues (Tuckerton Seaport and Whitesbog).   Some events we wanted to attend, but circumstances kept us away - illness, hurricanes, etc.  (Ocean Grove, Sharrott Wine Festival)

We're putting together our schedule for this coming year, and many of those favorites will be on there again. If you have suggestions for other events - just let us know! And keep you're eyes on our blog and website page for all the scoop on where we'll be as it comes in.

Jumping January

It's hard to complain about January so far here in New Jersey. The weather has been relatively mild and daylight is lasting a smidgeon bit longer every day.  Plus, January has such festive and fun filled days in it to enjoy.
Chai tea
Learn how to make healthy chai tea at herbmentor.com.

For starters, it's National Hot Tea Month! Mmmmmm, tea. Yummy to drink, warming and so good for you. I love combining my teas into exciting new flavors - like making a and then blending it with apple cider.  Brew up some tea and celebrate!

And let us not forget Monday, January 16. It's Appreciate Your Dragon Day!  They need a little kindness and love too!

January 18 is Pooh Day! Silly old bear. Celebrated on the birth anniversary of A.A. Milne, our favorite honey lover's creator.  Celebrate by doing something Pooh-ish.

Everyone loves a good hug. They're healthy and comforting and soothing and snugly. Give extra hugs on National Hugging Day on January 21.

And a very important date in history is to be celebrated on January 24th. It is the anniversary of the First Canned Beer.

January 30th is one of my absolutely favorite days of the year - Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day!!!

Get popping and enjoy all the fun that fills January!
