Playing with new ideas to bring you new creations

Faoiseamh (see article below) is just one of our new products). We have a number of items in the beginning stages. Inspiration seems to come in cycles around the Celtic Chairde cottage, and we've been having quite a burst of notions lately.

Besides our Faoiseamh Migraine soother, we're finalizing the formula for our Rose 'n' Dew Face Spritzer.   This lovely, light spray is made with rose hydrosol, a touch of rose honey, and other rosey goodness. But it's not an unbearably strong rose fragrance. I find I really enjoy it after a work out or when my skin is feeling extra dry. There are a few other volunteers trying it out as well. So far - its looking good.

Our Honey Pumpkin Face Mask is very popular and makes your skin feel so soft. But I've also been playing with a dried version. This would last longer, not need refrigeration, and still provide that same softness. This one's a bit more of a challenge. Getting the right texture for the pumpkin, finding the right dried herbal ingredients, and preventing clumping while keeping it an all natural product is testing my ingenuity - but I will prevail! I'm almost there, so I'll be looking for some volunteers soon.

Another Dream Mist has been dreamed up. This one features a light and cooling mix of essential oils and hydrosols blended to relieve those pesky hot flashes. So far we've had some success with this one - plus it just smells so darn good.

Look for more tests coming soon. If you'd like to volunteer to help out and try some of our new creations - just drop us a line! Click here and let me know you're game for playing!

Happy with Honey

September is so sweet because it's National Honey Month. I do so love my honey. I have a plethora of jars of herbs and spices infusing into lovely local honey. Our friends at Herbertsville Honey have some of the best around. Many of these infusions brewing in my cupboard go into our products - most of them go into my tummy.

To make an infused honey is ever so easy. You'll need:

A large, clean, dry jar
Honey to fill the jarHoney Jars
Your favorite herb or spice in combination.

Put the herbs or spices in to the jar, loosely packed to about 2/3 full. If using herbs, dried herbs tend to work best.

Fill the jar with honey to cover the herbs or spices. Stir well to get out bubbles and top off as needed.

Cap and label the jar. Put in a cabinet. This works best if kept in a cool, dry place. Stir the jar every few days and leave on the shelf for as long as you can take it. Two or three weeks is good - months works even better!

You might notice after time that some honey seems to thicken at the bottom. That's OK. Honey will begin to crystallize when exposed to the air. Just warm in gently and you'll be fine.

For lighter herbs and spices like lemon balm or roses, use light honey like clover or wildflower. Strong spices can take stronger, darker honeys.

My favorite infused honey? Hmmm - elderberry (great for colds and coughs), cinnamon (great on pancakes and in warm milk, and in Orange Ginger Sugar Scrub), vanilla beans (good on anything! and great in Sweetest Kisses), and rose petals (fabulous on scones and in Rose N Dew Sugar Scrub and Rose N Dew Face Spritz)

Not only do our wonderful products make great gifts for the holidays - but a few small jars of infused honey with some tea or biscuit mixes make unique and charming gifts for friends, co-workers, family and yourself!

See - doesn't honey make you happy?

Minty Migraine Faoiseamh

Faoiseamh (pronounced fwee-shah) means relief in Irish, and that's just what this little roller does. It provides therapeutic aroma therapy to help reduce the sharpness and pain of migraine.

 Mint leaves

A friend of mine suffers from migraines, usually triggered by a food allergy (chocolate was a prime culprit). We'd be at a party or on an outing and he'd get whacked with a migraine. After discussion with some fellow herb fans, and a lot of research, I came up with a blend of mint, lavender, feverfew and other herbs to help take the biting edge off the migraine.  These herbs were selected because they have traditionally relieved pain, and the fragrances aid in relaxation and tension relief - both essential for helping reduce migraine pain.

Now, it's been a while since I've had migraines (I had hormone related migraines  for a several painful years), so I needed some volunteers. Luckily, we happened upon a few (besides my friend), and they've been very pleased with the results they've had. Amy from PA had some very kind words:

"I love your Faoiseamh headache roll on. It has saved me reaching for the ibuprofen many times. It is cool and soothing and wonderful!"

Faoiseamh isn't available on our website yet, but we'll now have it available at craft fairs for an introductory price of $6.00.   It's light, fragrant without being over whelming, and easy to use. If you have any questions, just let me know!
