It's amazing the power a little tea bag can have. Fill the packets with freshly dried herbs and they have the power to nourish, brighten and invigorate you. And you don't even have to drink them!

Mela Teas

We make 4 types of Mela Taes (that's tea bag in Irish). Our most popular are our hair tea rinses which are loaded with nettle, and herb that adds shine and strength to your hair:

Night Moon is filled with rosemary, strawberry, and other dark hair brightening herbs. Lemon Bright has lemon, calendula and chamomile to bring out those light highlights while providing a nurturing boost.

We also make Bright Eyes, tea bags containing eye bright, cucumber and other soothing herbs for tired and puffy eyes.

Our newest addition is Galbhruith Aghast Fresh Face Steam Tea, a fragrant and refreshing combination that gently cleanses your pores.

These mela taes are so easy to use. Each bag gives you 4 to 5 treatments, and at only $5.00 a package it's an inexpensive mini-spa treatment you can do at home. Add a nice glass of wine or cup of tea and enjoy!

The Magic of the Witch...Hazel

I think almost everyone has a bottle of Witch Hazel in their medicine cabinet. What I'm not sure of is how many use it to it's full benefit, because Witch Hazel is one of those wonderful plants that is helpful in so many ways.

 Witch Hazel

Witch Hazel (Hamamelis virgniana) is a native to the east coast of the US and Canada. The shrub has beautiful, bright yellow blossom in the early to late fall and the leaves are a lovely red before they fall off for the winter.

Native American Indians utilized Witch Hazel  for a variety of medicines, applying decoctions and poultices on cuts, burns, bug bites, bruises, and sore and stiff joints, muscles and backs. They also used the branches to make bows. Teas were used to help staunch internal bleeding and treat colds, sore throats and other ailments.

Witch Hazels magic is found in it's strength as an astringent, anti inflammatory, anti-itch and it's ability to stop internal and external bleeding. It's a wonderful assistant to skin care where it helps ease and prevent acne as well as helping to tighten up the skin.

The Witch Hazel you find in your cabinet is most likely made from the leaves and young twigs, which are then distilled.  The bark is used to make different tinctures and ointments.

These healing properties are why we use Witch Hazel in our Face Toner and our Dó Gréine Spray. I'll also be writing some additional things you can do with Witch Hazel at our Blog within the next few days. So break out that bottle of Witch Hazel and take advantage of the magic.

Awesome August

August, my favorite summer month, is more than just a count down to autumn. It's filled with days both festive and fun. There's always a reason to celebrate the awesomeness that is August.

August is New Jersey Peach Month! One word - yyyuuummmmmmmmm!

It's also Happiness Happens Month (and eating peaches makes me happy). Share your happiness with others - and when someone shares happy news with you - celebrate!

August 6 is a bit of a conundrum. It's National Mustard Day AND National Fresh Breath Day.

Zucchini in a basketI haven't grown zucchini in a few years. But this year the urge struck again. Now, on August 8th, I'll be participating in Sneak Some Zucchini onto Your Neighbors Porch Night. There's only so much Ratatouille a person can eat.

It's Always Better At The Beach

We LOVE the shore. Not the TV version of the New Jersey Shore, but the real New Jersey shore. The sandy beaches, the amazing wild life in the backbays, inlets and estuaries, the beach roses and beach plums, dune grass and beautiful ocean and bay make it a touch of paradise. Every now and then, however, some passing sea animal decides to come for a visit when they really shouldn't. Or they get hurt and need a safe haven for recovery. That's where the Marine Mammal Stranding Center comes in.  The wonderful staff and terrific volunteers assist stranding mammals and sea turtles along all of New Jersey's water ways.

To thank them for all of their work rescuing and rehabilitating our flippered friends, Celtic Chairde is making a donation to the Marine Mammal Stranding Center for every new "Like" on Facebook. We are also donating 10% of all online orders. We've extended this to run through the end of August.

Dear ,

Can you believe we're already in to August? How the summer does fly by. We try to pack everything in to these sunshiney months - their power giving us hope through the shorter days of winter.

We've been crazy busy with work and product making, fairs and festivals, family and fun. We might have a little negligent in getting our newsletter and blog updated, but we have been mulling over and testing new product ideas.

We look for inspiration from you, our friends and customers. So if you have any suggestions or ideas for us to try, or improvements we can make to our current products - let us know. In the mean time - get out there and catch some summer before it's just a memory.
