The Apocryphal Cookie
These cookies are a favorite around our house for the holidays. For the full tale, check out the story of the Tale of the Apocryphal Cookie.
Apocryphal Cookies
* 1 cups butter, softened * 2 cups sugar * 4 eggs * 2 cups brown sugar * 2 tsp vanilla * 4 cups flour * 5 cups blended oatmeal (measure oatmeal and whir in a blender to a fine powder) * 2 tsp baking soda * 1 tsp baking powder * 1 tsp salt * 24 oz. raisinets or chocolate chips or cinnamon chips * 8 oz grated milk chocolate * 3 cups chopped nuts (optional)
Cream the butter and sugars together until smooth and creamy. Add the eggs and vanilla. Slowly add the dry ingredients of flour, oatmeal, salt, baking powder and baking soda. Blend completely and fold in chocolate, raisinets and nuts. Drop teaspoon size balls into an ungreased cookie sheet, about 2 inches apart. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes at 375 degrees. Remove from oven and place on racks to cool. Makes 124 cookies - but you can half the recipe.

Mmmmmmm Cocoa - Butter that is Usually, if you mention cocoa, people think of chocolate and a mug of hot, creamy smooth cocoa. Although that sounds wonderful on these chill winter days, so does a Cocoa Butter.
Cocoa butter is the product of pressing the roasted seeds of the Cacao tree (Theobroma cacao) tree. It's been used in Africa for years to reduce skin dryness and improve elasticity. It's filled with antioxidants, vitamins and minerals that help soothe and hydrate the skin. Although it's a solid at room temperature, it melts right onto the skin.
Cocoa butter has a lovely, faint, chocolate aroma that makes it a favorite to use in our products. Many of our lotion bars and body butters use Cocoa butter to add a soft, velvety texture to them - and your skin!
Create a create winters night for yourself - pour a cup of luscious hot cocoa and smooth on some cocoa butter rich body butter. Mmmmmmm, |

Keeping Smooth Skin All Winter
It starts with the changing of the seasons. That itchy, twitchy dryness that you get from constantly changing temperatures and the dryness of indoor heating. A few simple things can help you maintain your smooth, even in the chill of winter.
LOWER THE HEAT: Not necessarily in the house (although that will save you some money), but lower the heat in your baths and showers. Hot showers may be great for soothing those sore tired muscles, but it actually works to dehydrate your skin. Either take shorter baths, or keep a more moderate temperature.
EXFOLIATE: Removing the dead skin cells will help ease flakiness, and with it some itch. Our Sugar Scrubs will help gently exfoliate and stimulate your skin, while providing a scented, soothing light layer of moisturizing oils.
SPEAKING OF MOISTURIZING: It's important to protect your skin in this weather. It will protect from the dehydrating bite of chill air and sooth the itch and flakiness. Lotion bars are perfect for over exposed hands, and Body Butters feel soft and dreamy all over your body. I like to use Jazzy Lavender Body butter for my face. It's light, soothing, protective and has a beautifully calming light fragrance.
DON'T LICK YOU LIPS: It's so tempting, especially as they start to dry. But keep them protected with a good lip balm. Tingles is terrific for healing those ultra dry, cracked lips, and Sweetest Kisses is great for protecting and softening.
DRINK FOR YOUR HEALTH: Drinking plenty of water, teas or juices is important for maintaining your health. Stay healthy and warm and it will help your skin do the same!

With a burst of magic you feel it arrive...
Dear ,
That's a line from one of my favorite holiday movies - A Muppet Christmas Carol. No matter what holiday you celebrate, it is a magical season. One where we think of others and celebrate friendships, family and the wonder of it all. It can be stressful, but it's a season where memories of a lifetime are created, the kind that we hold warmly in our hearts all winter, all year, and our whole life long.
Thank you for your support - and for continuing to be our inspiration. May this season be magical, jolly and joyous.
