Stop the Globilization Act of 2008 - Keep those cards and letters going!

Congress may have been tied up with the bail out - but it's important to keep telling them that small businesses are important parts to keeping this country strong. In a
Presidential election year, all politicians are out to prove something,
and this year is no exception. So if you want to be heard - now is the time to do it.
The FDA Globalization Act of 2008 is draft legislation which, if put into action, would impose such enormous fees on small cosmetic businesses - like Celtic Chairde
Creations - that many of them would go out of business. This would mean
fewer choices for you, the consumer, and higher prices from those companies still in business. But there are things you can do to keep this draft
from going any further. Go to The Indie Business Blog and you can sign the petition or find letters that you can send to your Representatives. Together we keep keep small businesses going.

Pumpkins Time! Get creative and win!
Pumpkin, pumpkin, pumpkin! I LOVE pumpkins. The jolly orange globes remind me that Halloween is coming, the crispness of Autumn is here, and it's time to get carving and cooking.
I'll admit, some of my fondness for pumpkin carving comes from memories of creating those spooky faces with my dad. It was a rite of the season. Since the time of those jagged smiles and triangle eyes, I've discovered the wonder of Pumpkin Masters carving patterns and kits. My collection has grown so that I have a large bin filled with books and tools. My record collection of front yard ghoulery is 18 pumpkins. The record may not be broken this year - but I'll certainly give it a go.
Of course, with all of these pumpkins around, cooking comes in to play. Roasted pumpkin seeds are always a great treat for us. Pumpkin pie, butter, cookies, and even pumpkin in a yummy beef stew - one good size pumpkin goes a long way.
And of course there's our very popular Honey Pumpkin Face Mask. It's soothing, moisturizing, and brightening for your skin.
Pumpkins are 90% water, and packed with vitamin A, lutein, alpha-carotene, beta-carotene and potassium. Native American treasured pumpkins and used them for food, medicine - they even flattened strips of pumpkin and made them into mats. In fact, pumpkin was once considered a cure for snake bite, although I personally don't want to test that one. It's also said that pumpkins can help reduce freckles.
So, whether it's the traditional orange, or an interesting grey-blue, nows the time to pumpkin pick!
You could win an 8 oz Honey Pumpkin Face Mask! Send us pictures of your pumpkin masterpiece - carved or edible! Or your favorite pumpkin recipe! The winner will receive an 8 oz. Honey Pumpkin Face Mask Treat! Submit your entries to Celtic Chairde Creations, and we'll feature them next month.

5 Ways to celebrate Herb Day
Herb Day is coming! Saturday, October 11 is the 3rd annual Herb Day. Herbs are such an intricate part of our lives, it seems appropriate to take a day a celebrate these diverse, interesting and useful plants.
Most of us use dozens of herbs in our everyday lives without even thinking about it. A little basil in the spaghetti sauce, some thyme on a chicken dish, a little mint in your tea are simple things. We at Celtic Chairde use herbs in a myriad of ways - all of our products contain herbal infusions to enhance their purpose, use and fragrance. Many of these herbs grow in my backyard, so I've learned to use the simplest things in new and exciting ways.
You can celebrate Herb Day and enjoy these everyday treasures in new and exciting ways. Here are a few things to get you started.
1. Make an herb jelly! Mint jelly is probably the most popular, but you can make jelly from rosemary, lemon balm, garlic, geraniums, fennel, violets - any edible herb! The recipe for Rose Geranium jelly is great. If you don't have Rose Geraniums, use the herb of your choice and see what happens!
2. Collect your favorite herbs and use them as a bouquet in your house. Lemon Balm, Pineapple Sage, Mint, Calendula, Feverfew, Lavender, and Basil add fragrant and interesting accents to any corner.
3. Infuse herbs into sugars and vinegars. Any herb you have in abundance can be infused into a vinegar or sugar that will open up exciting new options in cooking. Our blog, Celtic Chairde Comhrá, gives you the secret to sweet success with Herbal Sugars. For herbal vinegars, look here.
4. Learn about a new herb. If you aren't sure what Calendula is, or if you didn't know that oregano can also be used as an antiseptic, try doing a little research and learn something new! The International Herb Association has some wonderful books about past Herbs of the Year. Or just check you local library, book store, agricultural service or garden center!
5. Have a nice cup of tea! What better way to enjoy a crisp autumn day than with an aromatic, enticing, warm herbal tea. It's easy to create your own, or enjoy one of our favorites - Ducky Life teas.
Happy Herb Day everyone! |
All Buttered Up
The change of season is a wondrous time, full of exciting new scents and a shift in the scenerys palette. It also signals a a subtle change in our skin. Cool air invigorates us - and starts to dry our sun drenched skin.
 Luckily, there are ways to protect your skin from the effects of the changing weather. Lotions apply a thin coat of protective oils and butters which help hold in your own bodys moisture. Most have other herbs and properties that aid in healing your skin.
All lotions have two parts, a water part and an oil part. How liquid a lotion is depends on how much water part was included in the recipe. Here at Celtic Chairde Creations, we have to types of moisturizing lotions: lotion bars with no water part and just soothing oils and butters; and body butters, creamy soft whipped concoctions with just a touch of healing herbal teas. Both of these are wonderfully soothing to dry itchy skin.
Body butters are certainly luxurious. We've created some unique scents that add to the comforting feel: Irish Country - fresh as an Irish breeze; Moonlight & Roses is like a walk in a moon lit rose garden in full bloom;
Jenny's Visions of Vanilla has the calming rich scent of vanilla and cream;
Arianne's Coconut Crème has the soul satisfying, coconutty rich fragrance;
Seaside Sunset is a walk along the beach; Floral Fantasy brings to mind an old fashioned country garden; Tropical Paradise Nights combines pineapple and plumeria reminding you of an evening breeze on an island veranda; and Jazzy Lavender, the all natural allure of gently blooming jasmine with relaxing lavender.
So, get all buttered up - or butter up a friend. You can email Celtic Chairde Creations to find our more about our highly scented and soothing butters, or stop by one of the events below.
