Stop the Globilization Act of 2008 - Get those cards and letters going!

Congress may still be on it's summer sabbatical
it won't be long before work begins again in full swing. In a
Presidential election year, all politicians are out to prove something,
and this year is no exception. So if you want to be heard - now is the time to do it.
The FDA Globalization Act of 2008 is draft legislation which, if put into action, would impose such enormous fees on small cosmetic businesses - like Celtic Chairde
Creations - that many of them would go out of business. This would mean
fewer choices for you, the consumer, and higher prices from those companies still in business. But there are things you can do to keep this draft
from going any further. Go to The Indie Business Blog and you can sign the petition or find letters that you can send to your Representatives. Together we keep keep small businesses going.

The Comfort of Comfrey
Comfrey was one of the first herbs I learned about when I began my studies 6 years ago. It was a fascinating plant with so many wonderful properties. I immediately sent away to my favorite online herb store and ordered some. The huge bag of dried green goodness arrived, and I furthered my studies and love of this wonderful herb. But it wasn't until about 2 years ago that I really understood and fell for Comfrey. In one of my sojourns to the amazing Well Sweep Herb Farm, I saw two little Comfrey plants and decided it was time to add them to my growing herb garden. The rewards have been more than I could imagine. I spend many days harvesting this hardy plant - but sometimes it's hard. Not the work, you can practically cut it back to nothing and it will regrow. No, it's hard because I don't want to disturb all the honeybees that seem to be attracted to the delicate little flowers. Comfrey has been used traditional for ages for it's healing properties. The roots and leaves contain allantoin, which is substance that helps new skin cells to grow. It helps heal bruises, sore muscles, fractures and soothe sprains and strains. It reduces inflammation while helping the skin heal. It is one of the key ingredients in our Muscle Rubs, Face Toner, Dó Greene (Sun burn) Spray, and the wonderful Gardeners Salve, where we combine Comfrey's power with Calendula's. As an added bonus, Comfrey's leaves speed up the breakdown of components of your compost. They are high in nitrogen and make great fertilizers. Now there are some cautions with Comfrey. It should not be applied directly to open wounds. Also, the FDA has determined it is unsafe for internal use. You should also be careful applying it to deep wounds - it could heal the skin area too quickly and leave you with an abscess. That's how powerful this herb is!Now, I get great comfort looking out at my garden and seeing my lovely Comfrey. It will be a plant I will learn with for years to come.

Why I Love Vinegar
I won't give you the whole, long, boring story. Suffice it to say, about a month ago I found out I have Lyme Disease. My doctor put me on an antibiotic to help beat the little bugger. One of the side affects is sensitivity to sunlight. This is not a good side affect for a sun baby like me.
I first noticed this annoying problem at the amazingly wonderful Jersey Fresh Wine and Food Festival. When I was in the sunshine, my skin actually hurt. Later that evening, I noticed some itchy blisters. Needless to say, I wasn't too pleased.
Wondering where the vinegar comes in? Right here. Knowing I needed s ome help with this problem, I pulled out my trusty Dó Greene (Sun burn) Spray. The vinegar soothed the burn and helped relieve the itch, while the other herbs (calendula and more) helped heal my blisters. It became a ritual to give my self a good spray every evening while I finished out my prescription. While visiting my parents, I found myself without my spray, so I just used straight apple cider vinegar. I smelled a little more like a salad, but I still got relief.
I've finished my doage of antibiotics, and seem to be getting back to normal. But this is just another reason I love vinegar. For more tips on the many uses of apple cider vinegar, check out the Natural Healing Home Remedies page. |
