THE WAY YOU LOOK TONIGHT - American Premier at the Shadow Lawn Theatre
|
|
Chairde means friend - and we always love sharing news about our friends.
Irish writer Niall Williams, the author of the international best-selling novel FOUR LETTERS OF LOVE, will be on the Jersey Shore this coming week to attend the opening night performance of the American premiere of his play THE WAY YOU LOOK TONIGHT at Shadow Lawn Stage on the campus of Monmouth University in West Long Branch, NJ. The play runs June 27th thru July 13th. Williams, who co-authored with his wife Christine the popular non-fiction book series O COME YE BACK TO IRELAND: OUR FIRST YEAR IN COUNTY CLARE (about
the couple's "reverse immigration" odyssey from NYC back to their home
country) will also appear at the Spring Lake library the evening of
Wednesday June 25th to talk about his career and to sign copies of his
works.
This
looks to be a great evening of theatre at a wonderful venue. And I'm
delighted to say that two of my good friends, Georgette and Bill
Timoney, are also appearing in the show. That's where the Chairde comes
in.
But they aren't just friends, they are wonderful performers.
Bill and Georgette have appeared in a number of plays together,
including productions at Shadow Lawn and at the Celtic Theatre Company.
Bill has a long career on stage, television and movies. Plus - they're
nice folks.
This is the American Premier of a show that has received high praise in the Emerald Isle.
For more information or to make reservations, you can call the theatre at 732-263-6889.

Sour Wine is Sweet for your Skin
|
|
Vinegar is probably one of the greatest accidental
discoveries of all time. Some time in the great distant past, just after the
discovery of wine, some body left the cork off the jar and the wine went sour.
But there was a clever body around that said, "Hey, I can work with this."
Thus, the magical elixir of vinegar was born.
That might be a slight exaggeration of how it all began, but
vinegar has been around for at least 5,000 years. Babylonians used dates to
make wine and vinegar, and used it to preserve other foods. Egyptian urns from
over 3,000 years ago hold the residue of vinegar. Hippocrates recommended apple
cider vinegar with honey for a wide variety if ailments. Helen of Troy was very
wise - she took a vinegar bath to help her relax.
Today, the varieties of vinegar available are as diverse as
the earth itself. There is balsamic vinegar; red, white, champagne, sherry, etc
wine vinegar; apple cider vinegar; rice wine vinegar; and dozens of other
specialty vinegars. Each has a distinctive taste which affects its purpose.
For cleaning, nothing can beat white distilled vinegar. It's
natural, works as a disinfectant, deodorizer and a great grease cutter. Here
are just a few tips:
Clean your coffee maker, copper pennies, and electric
razors.
Put a ½ cup of vinegar in the washing machines fabric softener
reservoir, instead of the fabric softener. This will reduce lint, help towels
be more absorbent, and reduce the waxy build up you get from fabric softeners.
Keep car windows
frost-free overnight in winter by coating them with a solution of 3
parts white distilled vinegar to 1 part water.
Kill weeds in your garden by pour full strength vinegar on
them.
For more tips, check out Vinegar Tips. There you'll
find dozens of things to do with vinegar.
My personal favorite is apple cider vinegar. I add it to
some water with honey for a refreshing, healthful drink - just like Hippocrates
recommended. It's wonderful at restoring ph to skin, so it's a vital ingredient
in our Honey and Roses Vinegar Bath and our Face Toner. Its talent for taking
the sting out of a burn is why it is essential in our Do Greene (Sun burn) Spray.
And now is the season when we think most
of skin care - probably because we're showing it more.
So add some vinegar to your daily regiment - for home, skin,
health and garden. Rediscover something so ancient - and so easy. For more
information about the benefits and uses of vinegar, try Apple Cider Vinegar Benefits, How Stuff Works,
or the The Vinegar Institute,
and get sweet with a little sour.

Stop the FDA Globalization Act of 2008!!
|
|
Don't let the FDA kill small business
Celtic Chairde Creations has been a dream of ours for years. We love making products that people enjoy using on their skin. This past year had been a time of slowly growing and spreading our wings. We're a small business, but we'll grow with time and patience. At least that's what we hope. But if the FDA has their way, hundreds of small cosmetic companies and grocers will be put out of business by the exorbitant fees being proposed in the FDA Globalization Act of 2008. If you enjoy our products, and those of other small business, please go to The Indie Beauty Network Blog
and read the information about this draft legislation. If you agree that this is an outrageous burden to place on small business, please sign the petition.
