Apple collection Pretty Wee Pots from our Friend
Blind Bob's Pottery

Our new items are listed below, but these little beauties deserve a wee bit of extra attention.

We're always looking for something a little different and new, either as ingredients for our products or how we display them. In April, we were at the Ocean County Artist's Guild show in Island Heights, NJ.  We couldn't help but notice  Blind Bob's Pottery. His work was beautiful - well crafted, whimsical, and many of the pieces had a Celtic flair. We checked out their booth several times, and eventually struck up a conversation with Charles O'Donnell - co-owner and craftsman of Blind Bob's (check the website link above to find out who Blind Bob is). Charles hand throws his pottery, and it's all glazed to be food , microwave and dishwasher safe.  What caught our eye - and Charles imagination - were the wee pots with lids! What a perfect home for our luscious body butters!

And so we introduce the line of Gleoite Deas Beag Potaireacht  (Wee Pretty Pottery). These little treasures hold approximately 2 oz of our creamy, healing body butters. Fragrances currently include Jazzy Lavender, Gardeners Salve, Floral Fantasy and Jenny's Visions of Vanilla. Each pot is a unique work of art. You'll be able to find this beauties at our Fall Shows. Only $10.00 each!

Rugosa Rose HipsWe want Big Hips - Rose Hips that is!
by Joanne

There's a hidden little spot along the New Jersey Shore where I pick big, juicy rugosa rose hips. As I pick them, many people on their way back or to the beach stop by and ask me, "What are those - tomatoes? Can you eat them? What can you do with them?"  My answers are "No, yes and where do I start!"

All roses create hips, or fruit,  if they are allowed to.  Don't dead head your roses and you'll wind up with plump little berries with a plethora of uses! Rugosa roses and some other wild roses create hips that can be over 2 inches wide, looking like over sized cherry tomatoes. Hybrid roses typically have smaller, bean sized hips. Actually, rose hips are a cousin to apples. The fruit is picked when bright red or orange. Tradition says that rose hips shouldn't be picked until after the first frost. I'll wait for the smaller little berries on my climbing rose, but rugosa hips should be picked when ready - smooth skinned and firm, but a slight give to the touch.  Rose hips are packed with Vitamin C, having even more than oranges!

Most people are familiar with rose hip tea. The berries are an ingredient in many health and natural teas. They add a slightly citrus taste, while packing in the Vitamin C and bioflavinoids that are so essential to good health.

There is so much more to Rose Hips though!  We use them in the kitchen to  make jams and  jellies and old fashioned rose hip syrup. There's also a vast number of cosmetic and skin care uses for rose hips. Many of our body butters and lotions are made with rose hip infusions because they provide skin toning qualities, astringent properties and are terrific antioxidants. Rose HIps are a wonderful gift from the lovely roses that we care for all summer long.

For more information about Rose Hips and their multitudes of uses, you can check Home Cooking at About.com or Wikipedia as starting points. Or drop me a line if you have any questions!
 What We've Heard
One of the best things about running a small business getting to know some of your customers very well and hearing what they like ... and even what they dislike. It's easy for us to react to customer comments. Because we hand make everything in small batches, we can make changes or come up with new products as requested.

Here's what one of our long time customers says about Celtic Chairde Creations products. We hope you agree!

"I LOVE your stuff! I love this product because I KNOW what's going on my skin when I use it. No weird chemicals, nothing harsh, just good stuff. Two of my grand-kids (16 & 17 year old girls) are also fans of this and some of this order is for them. That's so that when they snag mine, I still have plenty left...lol...(they know a good thing when they see it!) They also loved the Tingles lip balm....
I could go to the store and buy organic, pure, small batch stuff, but the label STILL lists chemicals in the contents. Yours doesn't.
The scents are wonderful my skin feels great when I use them. But really important is that I don't have to spend all day putting them on. Don't have to reapply over and over again because the softness and the scent lasts a looooong time!"

Thanks CS! We love you, too! Let us know what you think. Just drop us a line or come see us at one of the fairs listed below.

New for the Fall
We have a few new treats to kick off the fall season!

Jazzy Lavendar Body Butter -
Smooth and creamy, soothing and heavenly scented with pure Lavendar essential oil, this lush body butter treats your skin and your senses. The slight hint of jasmine undertones creates a perfect balance of calm and excitement. Available in .5, 1 and 2 oz. sizes,  as well as our lovely ceramic pots by Blind Bob's Pottery.

Peach Lip Balm -
Don't let summer end! This lip balm holds in moisture to keep your lips smooth - plus it tasted like fresh peaches!

Face Toner -
This is something I've been using myself for years! Apple cider vinegar restores pH balance while witch hazel tones and reduces redness. Calendula, strawberry, aloe, and other fresh herbs create a refreshing cleanser and toner for tuckered out skin.
