A Healing Kiss of Sunshine
Calendula Brighten Gardens and Heals Gardeners Hands As Well
I have a wonderful patch of Calendula growing in the back yard. The crop for this year is just starting to come up. Luckily, I dried a lot of these amazing little flowers last year.
I was never fond of marigolds, thought they were kind of everyday. But as I began studying herbs, the gifts that they can give us, their feel and their properties, I realized I might want to give these little bright yellow flowers a try. Also called Pot Marigold, Calendula has become one of my favorite herbs.
Some might consider these herbs weeds, but they are a highlight of many a country garden. They've been a gift to kitchens, apothecaries and cosmetics for centuries.
Flowering starts in June. The blossoms are usually bright yellow, but they can be orange as well. They petals have been used to color butters and to flavor and color rice. But it's the healing power of calendula that intrigued me.
The healing power of the blossoms is well known. In the past they've been used to treat bedsores and lesions. Their sunny color and healing power make them the perfect ingredient to our Gardeners Salve.
Gardeners Salve is made with fresh and dried Calendula, as well as Calendula CO2 extract. This triple punch, plus a carefully selected collection of other herbs, oils and butters, make this simple salve a great treat for overworked hands.
1 oz - $5.00 2 oz - $8.00 You can order Gardeners Salve through email or pick it up from our booth at upcoming fairs and festival.
