NEW! Free Parent Guides on Child Development are Available Online 

A Parent's Guide to Raising Healthy, Happy Children is now available online. As a provider, this is a resource you may want to share with the parents in your center by ordering, download and printing or sharing the web site address.

If you currently serve families who are eligible for CCS or CCMS programs, you may be able to receive this resource at no cost to distribute to the families of infants and toddlers.

Texans Care for Children, in partnership with the Department of State Health Services, is able to provide these guides for free to organizations who will distribute the guides to families of Medicaid-eligible infants and toddlers, regardless of whether they are enrolled, and pregnant women enrolled in Medicaid. 

The guides are available in English and Spanish. Orders must be for 100 or more guides and will only be accepted through August 31, 2010.

Spring Conference Early Bird Deadline is March 8
Save the Date! The 2010 Spring Conference for Early Child Care Professionals will be held Saturday, March 27 from 9am to 3:30pm. This one-day conference includes 20 different breakout sessions.Earn up to six clock hours by attending. Highlights of training are the price (only $50 if you register by March 8!), the variety of training topics and the Spanish language track.

Hand in Hand Criteria Change
Hand in Hand is now accepting children for Wraparound who are at imminent risk of a mental illness. Other Hand in Hand criteria continue to apply, including:  
  • The family must live in Hood, Johnson, Palo Pinto, Parker or Tarrant Counties outside the City of Fort Worth.
  • The child must be between birth and age 6. 
If you know a family who might be eligible for Hand in Hand Wraparound and would like someone to conduct screenings, or have any questions about Hand in Hand, call the Hand in Hand office at 817-569-5720 or email Stephanie Norton
Fliers are available for distribution to families and child care professionals.
Nominations Now Being Accepted for "2010 Excellence in Child Care" Awards
The fifth annual Celebrations of Champions is kicking off this week with the posting of nomination forms. Camp Fire USA First Texas Council hosts this dinner and awards ceremony in conjunction with the Fort Worth Area Association for the Education of Young Children to recognize and honor theCelebration of Champions valuable work and positive impact of early childhood professionals have on the tens-of-thousands area children age birth to five.

The evening features entertainment, a keynote address and the presentation of the 2010 Excellence in Child Care awards given based on nominations from parents, early childhood educator peers and administrators in Tarrant County.

Please take the time to nominate someone today and be sure to share this information with parents and peers you know. Mark your calendars and join us on April 8, 2010 at the Sheraton Hotel and Spa in Downtown Fort Worth.

National Association for Family Child Care Accreditation Support Group Starts March 30
Join Barb Luft, the National Association for Family Child Care Region 6 Representative serving Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas, as she leads family child care providers through the quality standards and accreditation process for the NAFCCA.
 
Each support group session will focus on a specific quality standard and will include ideas for your success. This nationally-recognized Accreditation System was created just for family child care professionals and designed by hundreds of providers, parents and early care and education experts in an effort to create high quality family child care programs.

Verizon Employee Book Drive Supports Kindergarten Readiness Program
Verizon employees at both the Grapevine and Irving sites hosted a book drive in December 2009 to benefit the Kindergarten Readiness program. More than 600 books were donated and will enhance the early literacyVerizon Book Drive skills and love of reading in preschool children.

In January, representatives of each Verizon location spent the morning delivering books to some of the sites and reading with the children who are benefiting from this generous donation. Books were delivered to 18 family home and child care centers which are actively involved with the Kindergarten Readiness Program.

Kindergarten Readiness supports child care professionals in selected zip codes to enhance the learning environment so children 0-5 will be better prepared for success in school. For more information, contact Pam Rinn at Pam@CampFireFW.org.

ECMI's First Class of the Year Starts Feb. 23
Early Childhood Management Institute (ECMI)Training is hosting its first class of the year in Arlington, Texas. Join leaders and peers in the child care industry as they learn the keys to becoming successful owners and directors of a child care business. Whether you have a home-based child care business or you run a child care center, the six modules of ECMI cover all aspects, from marketing a program to staff development. Upon successful completion of course and exam, participants will receive a Director's Administration Credential that can be used to apply for your Texas Director's License.
