Manage Holiday Closings with Care |
Holiday closings are both a welcomed break and a break in the flow of your child care facility. Leading up to closings for holidays require effective and constant communication with your staff and parents. The best way to minimize the questions and anxiety that can occur around holiday closings is to plan and communicate up front.
These tips will help you smoothly transition in and out of holiday closings:
- Specify your holiday closings in your parent and staff manuals. This gives parents and staff time to prepare for closings.
- A few weeks prior to the closings hold a staff meeting or meet one-on-one with your team to remind them of your expectations and desires for the upcoming closings and answer any questions they may have.
- Have curriculum and class plans/activities to be developed in advance of closing. This can alleviate stress of having to plan in the midst of changing class sizes and ensures that programming meets the standards you have set for your child care facility.
- OVER Communicate closings to parents. Fliers on the walls, notes by sign-in forms and notes home with the children help parents plan their holiday times as well.
- Have a strategy in place to help keep staff energy up before and after the closings.
- Make sure your contact information is provided and that you make yourself available to staff, colleagues and families during this time.
By planning ahead and valuing staff and families your holiday closings can run smoothly with limited disruption to the flow of your facility. |
