I still don't consider myself a runner...but joining Beantown Bootcamp and meeting John Wayman has been one of the most rewarding changes in my life. I was looking for something different and decided to check out one of these "bootcamp" classes I had heard so much about. I joined with a friend in the beginner classes and soon moved into the intermediate classes (with a little push from the veterans - hahaha). Before joining bootcamp, I had done a couple of 5k races but mostly picked races according to the beer they served at the end...sorry John! But that all changed last year...
Many of the bootcampers had done the marathon and kept talking about joining them for other races. I got talked into doing a 10k and figured - ok this will be my long run for this year. NOPE - after completing that race and running it in a great time - I decided I would sign up for my first ½ marathon. I was so scared and thought I could never do this. John and the other veterans took me under their wings and we started to train together. They actually made running fun, it was great to run with other people and have that comradery between us. So between going to bootcamp and frt ¾ times a week and the runs - I finished my first half marathon in 2hrs!!! I was so proud and excited - I couldn't believe what I had accomplished. Well 4 months later.....you guessed it - I got talked into running a marathon! They were all training for Boston and I thought - you know what - I can totally do this. So here I am, 2 months away from my first marathon and I couldn't be more excited (and scared of course). But with all the help and support I've got from John and the other bootcampers - I know I can do this. None of this would be possible without this program and I thank John and all the bootcampers for their support! It really is like a second family.
