FCBC Update
March 11, 2010

Our mission is to develop devoted followers of Christ, connected in a unique community, with a passion for serving others.
Your weekly connection to Fairfax Circle Baptist Church.
  A Note from David...

I want to start by saying thanks to everyone who made Hypothermia Relief Week possible.  So many people served in so many ways.  I love when our church takes the opportunity to come together and be a part of something that is larger than we are.  Please continue to pray for our homeless guests.  This is the last week of the program and many of them are anxious about where they will go next week.  Also, please continue to pray for FACETS as they serve the homeless everyday.

I know Easter Sunday is still several weeks away but we need to begin preparing for it.  We will have more folks, especially guests, at our church on Easter than on any other Sunday of the year.  That means in order to make a great first impression we need to be at the top of our game in all areas.

Here are a few ways you can be a part of making Easter special for our guests and families:

  • Be extra friendly.  I know that's hard for a church that's already so friendly to do but we all need to be reminded from time to time to go the extra mile.
  • Be ready to help point people in the right direction.  While we know how to find childcare, restrooms and most importantly, the coffee, new folks don't, so please help them find what they need.
  • Be prepared to squeeze in to make room for extra folks and late arrivals.  Also, consider moving up a row or two toward the front.  Most first time guests tend to prefer sitting closer to the back.
  • We NEED extra childcare workers for Easter Sunday.  We anticipate having more children than usual this Easter which means we will need to add at least one extra class or nursery.  If you currently serve in our Sunday morning children's ministry, please consider taking an extra turn this Easter.  If you are not currently serving in this ministry but would like to find out more about it, please email Marsha Magnet

A great perspective to have for Easter, or any Sunday, is "company is coming."  At my house dinner time is family time.  We talk about our day, tell inside jokes, we don't use our best manners and we don't really go out of our way to clean the house before dinner.  But when we have company over for dinner, we clean up, we set the table a little nicer and we use our best manners.  And most importantly we avoid inside, family conversations.  That's the perspective we need to have when we come to church on Sundays; company is coming.

See you Sunday,

David

HRW Update

The program is going well this year.  We're averaging about 40 guests per night so far.  As we head into a new week, we ask that you continue to keep our guests in your prayers.  This is the last week of the program, so many of them have a heightening level of anxiety about where they will be next week and beyond.  Also, we have added an extra night to our service.  The program actually ends on Tuesday morning, so we need to staff the Monday evening and over night shifts as well as the Tuesday morning shift.  If you can help, please sign up here

FACETS is holding a Hypothermia Prevention Response Program Thank You Event for all of the volunteers who served in the program this year.  Please join us for an afternoon of food and fellowship as we celebrate the successes of the Hypothermia Prevention Response Program this winter. All are welcome!  It will be held March 27, 2010 at 1 pm at Saint Christopher's Episcopal Church (6320 Hanover Avenue Springfield, VA 22150).  We really hope you can go.  If you have any questions please contact Barbara Tate, at btate@facetscares.org or 703-865-4252.

Also, if you have served in this ministry this year, please complete this survey about the FACETS program here.  Like FCBC, FACETS seeks to constantly improve their service for both guests and volunteers alike.  Your responses to the survey help them know how to make just such improvements.

Finally, THANK YOU to all our wonderful volunteers.  It is truly a blessing to see how God has blessed our church both materially and in terms of individuals willing to serve others as a witness to Him.

 Our Core Values:
We value...

...bringing people to Christ by overcoming obstacles and loving them as they are
...actively nurturing spiritual growth
...recognizing that every person is important and has a role to play
...serving the church, local community, and beyond
...strengthening families and developing the next  generation
Now Recruiting
We are still recruiting Welcome Team members!  In a global strategy to improve the way we welcome visitors and help new members integrate our church family, the Connection Team is planning a training session for anyone who would like to join the Welcome Ministry.  The training will be held March 28th immediately after the morning worship service.  Greeters and Ushers are the first faces people see when they come to our door, so if you are gifted in hospitality, friendly, or just have a nice face... this may be the ministry for you!  Please contact Carolyn Inman if you would like to serve in this way, or if you have any questions.
