Hypothermia Relief Week Update 12 days and counting..
February 22 2010

Greetings!

In just 12 short days, Fairfax Circle Baptist Church will be welcoming 40 homeless guests from all around Fairfax County.

In Matthew 25:40, Jesus said whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me. Being part of this ministry is sure to be a rewarding and eye-opening experience for you, so please don't miss out on this opportunity to serve!

    What is Morning Guest Services?

From our Morning Guest Services Guru, Jeff Lindley:

We still need volunteers for the early morning shift on Tuesday 3/9 (one), Saturday 3/13 (one), Sunday 3/14 (one), and Monday 3/15 (two). I thought that some of you may be reluctant to volunteer because you don't quite know what to expect.

Here's the scoop. Between 4:00 and 5:15am, the four volunteers and one member of the FACETS staff are mostly just available in case something out of the ordinary happens, which it rarely does as our guests are almost all asleep at that hour. If you can't make it at 4:00, we generally allow one or two of the volunteers to come in at 5:00. At about 5:15, we begin to prepare fresh coffee and gather up the food and supplies for the continental breakfast that we serve and the items for sack lunches that we provide. Most of this is put together the day before, so our job is mostly to get everything organized and ready to serve.

At 6:00, our guests are awakened and we make sure that all of the breakfast and sack lunch items are available and kept refreshed. We also have the opportunity for fellowship with our guests as they begin their day. At 7:00, our guests leave and we begin the task of returning the breakfast and lunch items to the kitchen and cleaning the blue room, side rooms, and bathrooms so that these areas are ready for the Child Development Center (CDC) program to use. We generally wrap up by 7:45. That's about it.
If this sounds like a way you would be willing to serve, please sign up on line or send me an e-mail at j8j9c6h@cox.net. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at 703-319-3173. Thanks for your support.

HRW kicks off on Sunday 7 March! Please join us for a work day at the church on Saturday 6 March from 10AM 2PM to help organize, clean and get ready!

Here's what we need to accomplish:

    • ensure kitchen and sleeping areas are clean
    • clean out the infant/toddler room
    • setup the donation station
    • setup registration desk
    • have binder, sign-in roster and ID badges setup in the office
    • set our Fire Marshall and FACETS-required signs

    Hypothermia Training on 1 March

FACETS will share important information about this years program, so whether youre an HRW veteran or new to the ministry this year, all volunteers are strongly encouraged to attend. The training will begin promptly at 7 pm

Please make every effort to attend this training. Old or new to the ministry there is vital information to pass!
