FCBC Update
February 4,  2010
Your weekly connection to Fairfax Circle Baptist Church
  A Note from David...

As I write this, the weather experts are calling for another major snowstorm to hit the DC area this weekend.  We hope to have worship on Sunday but the timing of this storm looks like it will be another close call.  Please keep an eye on our website for updates on our activities.

Please be in prayer for our staff pastors next week.  We will be going to Saddleback Church for a week long conference.  We fly out on Monday and will return on Friday.  I'm excited about this conference for several reasons.

It will be the first time our entire pastoral staff has spent this much time together.  I believe 2010 is going to bring some great opportunities and challenges to our church and having a staff that is unified in leading the church is going to be important.  Please pray that this trip will bring us even closer together.

I'm also excited because I've been receiving regular emails and updates from Rick Warren and the staff at Saddleback about the conference.  Not only will each of our pastors have an opportunity to receive training in their specific area of focus but the general sessions are going to be spiritually challenging for all of us.  I believe that growing churches require growing leaders.  So please pray that we will grow in our own spiritual journeys while we are there.

While we are away we will try to keep you in the loop on our experience through our posts on Facebook, Twitter and blogs.  Thank you in advance for you prayers.

I hope to see you Sunday.

David

Hypothermia Relief Week 2010 (March 7-15)

As we're all sitting warm and snuggly in our homes these days, with the winter weather raging outside, let's remember that the guests we serve during HRW are not so fortunate.  Let that thought motivate you to serve!!  Sign-up and volunteer here.  If you are not comfortable signing up online, you can sign up in the foyer on Sunday with the help of a HRW Team Member.  Remember that the goal of Hypothermia response is to keep homeless adults from freezing.

Some potential special needs have been brought to our
attention this week given the prediction of heavy snow fall.  If you can help, please respond ASAP so the necessary planning can be done.
There are two potentially urgent needs in the case of the predicted snow storm:

 1) If you are available to support this week's host churches any time from Friday evening through Sunday morning by being on-call to help if help is needed, please reply ASAP and specify which of the two churches you can get to and when you are available.  The two churches serving this week are St. Stephens UMC at 9203 Braddock Rd. (between Guinea Rd. &  Rolling Rd.) and Fairfax UMC at 10300 Stratford Ave. at the  intersection with University Dr. (behind former Fair Oaks Dodge on Fairfax Blvd.)

 2) Any drivers of 4WD vehicles that could be on-call to shuttle volunteers to and from shelter sites, please reply with your schedule availability and indicate the church closest to you so we can coordinate your transportation offers.

RSVP by email to Nella Farley from FACETS ASAP, please! (include your phone number with reply, thanks!)
