Friend

A month ago, I wrote in my last eNewsletter that the Green Light window had opened for a brief period. I hope you seized the opportunity to do something important to you. The next Green Light time frame comes along in August and lasts through mid-October, so if you missed this chance, set your sights and prepare for then. In the interim, with Venus turning Retrograde at 10:34 am EDT this morning through June 27, followed by a Mercury Retrograde July 14 to August 8, we are in a yellow light caution period. (Though Retrogrades are an optical illusion of backward movement measured against the backdrop of the zodiac as a faster planet passes a slower one, we feel their effects as very real.)

Venus is the planet associated with relationships and finances. Either or both are poised for a backward step over the next 40 days. Basically, we are supposed to re-learn lessons in these arenas. A common thread is what you value, which you are likely to review or re-evaluate at this time. Assess if your relationships are pleasing to you and if you feel respected by others. Adjustments might be necessary. Likewise, your financial plans or strategy might benefit from a review.

The most important part of a Venus retrograde is to bring the love principle home into your own heart, to love and approve of yourself and to embody the principles of love, fairness and justice. This retrograde takes place in Gemini (with Venus backtracking from about 24 degrees down to 7-1/2), a sign of thought and communication. Have a heart-to-heart talk with yourself about how to have more love in your life.

As Venus pivots, the strongest connection it makes to another planet is a trine (one third of the sky apart) with Saturn in Libra, a sign ruled by Venus. Saturn is in the last months of its 2-3 year stay in the sign of partnership, teaching us lessons in how to get along better, to respect and be respected in our close relationships. This retrograde time frame offers a good chance to get your relationships in better balance, shoring up boundaries or laying down ground rules as needed.

For more information about Venus and this retrograde, watch the latest episode of Looking Up, when my fellow astrologer and friend, Agneta Borstein, is my guest and we take a look at our sister planet. You might also like to read this fascinating, though somewhat technical, article about Venus with a very helpful animation of its retrogrades and the Passage of Venus.

Eclipse Season is Upon Us

Solar Eclipse May 20
solar eclipse corona

Eclipses come in pairs or trios, separated by about six months from the next pair or trio. This spring we have a duo, beginning with the New Moon at zero degrees of Gemini on May 20. A New Moon (Solar) Eclipse offers a big beginning in the topics represented by the sign, in this case: information, learning and communication. Expect important fresh ideas to emerge. Perhaps there will be a premier of an exciting new product or means of information exchange. Of course, concepts conceived during the coming months might not become manifest right away so it could be a while before we see the results of what is coming into being now.

A New Moon is period of darkness or formlessness, followed by increasing light (reflection of the Sun's light by the Moon) and manifestation. According to astrologer Dietrech Pessin and her theory of Moon Families, the blossoming of something begun near a New Moon often happens about 18 months later when a Full Moon occurs at about the same degree of the zodiac as the current New Moon. (You can read about this and see the table of 2012 Moon Family phases on page 69 of the 2012 Janet's Plan-its, or go to Dietrech's site, Lunar Shadows, for her wonderful book, Lunar Shadows III, or to enjoy her forecasts and weekly radio show.) The Full Moon associated with this Solar Eclipse will be in November 2013.

Meanwhile, the Full Moon of the current lunar cycle begun at the May 20 Solar Eclipse will be a Lunar Eclipse on June 4 at 14-15 degrees of Sagittarius. It is in the same Moon Family as a New Moon back in December of 2010. If you can remember circumstances present in your life then, see if there is a resonance or a development this June that seems to be related to that time period. In any event, the days around June 4 are a great time to be in touch with those you love at a distance. Sagittarius is the sign of long distance communication and with Venus Retrograde, re-connecting is in order. Sagittarius is also a sign of spreading of information or sharing of knowledge, so maybe you can find ways to disseminate what you know.

Any Full Moon is a time for blossoming or hitting a peak. If you know the house in your chart where this Lunar Eclipse occurs, that is an area in which you are likely to experience a culmination of some sort. Often a stressful situation comes to an end with a Full Moon because it hits a maximum and then backs down from there. With Sagittarius being a sign of optimism, it may be that some people experience a let-down after this Full Moon and what seemed possible before shifts to appear less likely. If that is the case, be comforted by knowing that such a development was not meant to be, and adjust your focus to a different goal.

A sort of eclipse of a different type happens on June 5 (June 6 in Europe and Asia), the "Passage of Venus," where our nearest neighboring planet appears to march across the face of the Sun. You cannot look at it with your bare eyes, but with the right equipment it will be quite the sight to see, one that will not be repeated in our lifetime. Do be sure to check the news, where undoubtedly there will be exciting photos.

This phenomenon happened eight years ago but will not repeat for 113 years. Though Venus regularly passes between earth and the Sun every year and a half or so, this only rarely happens at precisely the right angle for an exact line-up for little Venus to appear in front of the Sun's disk. The interpretation is to draw the loving energy of Venus into your own heart and hopefully that it will infuse the hearts of our leaders (since the Sun represents those in leadership positions). The passage takes several hours, centered on the exact conjunction (team-up) of Venus and the Sun at 6:02 pm PDT/9:02 pm EDT. It will be in process as the Sun sets in the eastern US but still visible for a little while beforehand. Let's hope for good weather for viewing!

If you still don't have this year's calendar, order it now and it will ship out quickly. I just chopped $5 off the price, reducing it to $13.98.

Always be sure to read ahead in your Janet's Plan-its! It's good to know a few weeks ahead of time before an important phenomenon comes up, especially if it impacts YOUR chart.

Here's hoping you can find exciting ways to utilize the upcoming eclipses. Best wishes for the remainder of the spring!
