Friend
Spring is upon us at last, as we enter the earth sign
Taurus, the middle sign of the spring season. Flowers
are blooming, the weather is great , and we're happy
to be alive. We should kiss the ground we walk on.

The View from Our Planet
Our home - a beautiful, bountiful, incredible and fragile
planet, perhaps a unique or preciously rare jewel
among the unimaginably huge universe of stars and
celestial objects. She supports us with a breathable
(at present) atmosphere, a constant water supply
(albeit unevenly distributed), till-able earth, sail-able
seas, forests, wildlife - all of which we take for
granted. But we can't any longer. As environmentalists
have been telling us for decades - the first "Earth Day"
was 37 years ago! It all comes down to what we value
most, what matters most. Taurus is the sign of values.
Earth Day is celebrated the weekend that falls closest
to the beginning of the sign Taurus. It wasn't planned
according to astrology, but that's how it ended up. Not
so much a coincidence as synchronicity, if you ask
me.
In studying astrology, it's easy to focus on planets and
constellations, the moon, the sun and our solar
system and take earth for granted. When we look
skyward, we don't see our feet and our home beneath
them. The other planets in our solar system have
been named after gods, but we often treat our planet
like dirt. We don't usually draw a symbol for Earth on
our astrology charts (by definition, it is always exactly
opposite the Sun's position). Today, as I honor
Earth, I remember that we have a special place in, and
view of, the universe. I sometimes ponder how
astrologers will do charts for babies born on space
stations or space flights. Our astrology on earth is
based on the configurations from our perspective,
refined to the view from a particular longitude and
latitude. What frame of reference can you use away in
outer space? Earth gives us the ground against which
to measure all things in our earthly existence and
what's out of this world.

Bringing the Heavens Down to Earth

Your Birth Moment on the Map
You have a unique relationship with the earth and the
heavens by virtue of the precise moment and place
where you were born. The locations of the planets of
our solar system measured against the backdrop of
the zodiac changes moment to moment due to
planetary motion as well as the spinning of the earth.
But your birth chart is not the only important map that
your birth moment and place generate. We can also
make maps of where on earth the various planets
were rising or setting when you were born. These
show your personal power places.
If you are deciding where to travel or whether you
might relocate - or if you have already moved a
distance from your birthplace - you can be helped by
consulting astrology. A "Relocation Chart" shifts your
birth planet configuration to view the heavens as if you
were born somewhere else. "Astro-Locality" examines
places on earth where the various planets were seen
to rise, set, or are most overhead or underfoot. These
are the most powerful points of the chart circle. By
associating with certain locations, you can focus on
the traits related to the planet that was featured there
at your birth time. Another kind of special astrological
location map utilizes the connections of various
planets at your birth to the compass points. This
helps to determine in what direction(s) from your
current location you should reach out for what you
want. Contact Janet to assess where on earth you
can have the help of the planets to achieve your
goals.

Ask not what your planet does for you, but what can
you do for your planet?
(I hope JFK will pardon me for adapting his great
quote.) A popular piece of art on my office wall is a
nicely illustrated poster from Janina Lamb of New
Hampshire. (If you'd like to see it or order it, go to this
website:
http://www.earthrights.net/allegiance.html) It says:
I pledge allegiance to the Earth and all the life
which it supports, one planet, in our care,
irreplaceable, with sustenance and respect for all.
As much as I love the sun, moon and stars, I always
try to remember to love my Mother Earth - and my
fellow earthlings, whether they be human, animal or
plant. We are truly blessed living in this Garden of
Eden, and on a day like today, we should think about
that.
Yours in the Stars,
