Friend
The good news is we've just passed the midway point
through the winter season and spring will soon be in
the air. The not-so-good news is, another bout of
Mercury Retrograde is almost upon us.

Mercury Retrograde Feb. 13 - March 7

Don't Let Zigzag Zaniness Trip You Up
Little Mercury - the planet in charge of communication
and getting around on the ground - appears to go
backwards, called "Retrograde." This phenomenon
happens every 3 months, lasting three weeks each
time. That's often enough that you'd think we'd get
used to it, but it still seems to throw most people for a
loop! There's a handy article on my website (click
below) with suggestions on how to avoid its pitfalls
and make good use of this opportunity to review and
re-do.
Another way to get a handle on this precarious period
is via Janet's upcoming CONFERENCE CALL
CLASS Sat. Feb. 17 . The fee is a low
$25 for two hours, at 1 PM EST, 10 AM PST.
Pre-registration is required. Call Janet
860-232-4670 in CT or toll-free 1-877-293-
1607.

The Finger of God Points to ... Florida

Janet Heads South to Discuss the "Detour to Destiny"
There is a type of triangle in some people's charts
called the "Finger of God," which Janet describes as
a "detour to destiny." Sometimes we don't see this as
God pointing the way but rather showing us the slang
finger. But it's just that we have to go the long way
around to get where we're going.
Janet's way of dealing with Connecticut's cold winter
is to head to a warmer and sunnier climate! She will
present a lecture on the Finger of God to the
Astrological Association of St. Petersburg on
Thursday, March 1 and offer a workshop on this topic
at Planet Earth Bookstore in Fort Myers (239-939-
3969) on Sunday, March 4. She's also available for
readings in St. Pete Feb. 28 - March 2 at Heavenly
Things (727-822-8938), at Planet Earth on Sat., March
3, and by appointment in the Fort Myers area March 5-
8 (call Janet). Click below for more details.

Winter Holidays have an Astrological Basis!
We mark the mid-way point of winter with Groundhog
Day, an American blend of Europe's Candlemas
holiday (which evolved from the Pagan holiday Imbolc)
with Native Americans' reverence for local animals.
Candlemas legend also looks at the mid-winter
weather as a predictor for the severity of the rest of the
season, heard in this old English saying: "If
Candlemas be fair and bright,
Winter has another flight.
If Candlemas brings clouds and rain,
Winter will not come again." Whether or not
Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow,
winter officially lasts another six weeks by definition
since Groundhog Day comes halfway between the
winter solstice and the spring equinox.
Like most Christian holidays, Mardi Gras has pagan
roots, namely the Roman mid-February circus-like
romp called Lupercalia. Carnival merriment precedes
the penance of Lent. The dates for Lent and Easter
are dependent on the Hebrew calendar, which is
based on lunar cycles. Easter is the first Sunday
following the first full moon after the spring equinox.
This year, February 20th is Mardi Gras, translated
literally as "fat Tuesday." And Tuesday is the day of the
week named for Mars, which you can hear in the day's
French name. "Laissez les bon temps rouler!" (Let the
good times roll!)
Find something fun to do to lift your spirits this winter!
