A Message To My Friends

By Anonymous

The birds are singing shira today. They are very happy to be alive. Do you know that Hashem loves shira, and human beings too. We have to take life to the maximum and appreciate it. I realize every day that life is a big gift. Sometimes we are afraid and we worry but we have to remember "ein od milvado," Hashem really runs the world.

The more I go to the medical field to find a cure for my cancer, the more I know there is nobody like Hashem and if He wants He can cure me in a second and He will b'ezras Hashem.

The journey Hashem blessed me to go, which I'm so lucky to have, is to be b'simcha and one of the best ways to be b'simcha is to sing and I hope Hashem loves my singing as much as I love to sing to Him. To me to be able to sing to Hashem is like hand in hand. When I am scared instead of dwelling on fear I sing and it takes the fear away.

That's why I can relate so much to (and I like to sing this tune in Hallel) "she'ha'eikar lo lefached" the song of Rabbi Nachman. The world is a narrow bridge and the most important thing in life is not to be scared. When I am scared it helps me to go to Rabbi Nachman's tune that all the world is really a narrow bridge and we shouldn't be scared. Instead of being scared I try to be happy.

One of the things that I want to say is that fear takes away from our simcha

There's No Time Like the Present and No Present Like Time

By Rivki Rosenwald Esq. C.L.C

                The alarm is buzzing

                The door bell's ringing

                The cell phone's singing

                The train warning's sounding

Without warnings and reminders some of us get lost and lose time.

Sometimes- time drags and we can't wait for it to pass:

·         Labor

·         A boring lecture

·         Pain

Sometimes -time flies by and we wish we could slow it down:

·         A happy event

·         A marriage proposal

·         The weekend

The most important thing, when things are going well, is, to live in the present. Recognize it! Bathe in it! Enjoy it! Be cognizant with all your senses of the moment.

The Ballad of John and Jessica
By
JOE NOCERA, NY Times
For the last five years, the Cafe Carlyle, perhaps the premier cabaret venue in New York City, has devoted the month of November to an act featuring John Pizzarelli, a jazz guitarist and vocalist, and his wife, Jessica Molaskey, a Broadway actress and singer.

My year wouldn't be complete if I didn't go. Their exacting musicianship; their ability to weave the Beatles and Sondheim, Jobim and Cole Porter into a seamless set; and their hilarious banter (John is a born ham, Jessica a born foil) invariably make it a memorable evening. I admire the way they make it look easy.

I also admire something else about them: the way they have built their careers. In their late 40s when the Carlyle first booked them, they are the opposite of "overnight sensations." They have been working at their professions since they were teenagers.

The Rain It Raineth
By

"It's raining," I think, and then wonder what the "it" is that is doing the raining. Ordinarily, that's just a linguistic question. But on a cold November day, it feels like a philosophical problem. It makes no sense to say the clouds are raining when the sky is so solidly, grayly felted. In the pasture, the horses stand, hair slicked, hind legs cocked. I conclude that what is raining is the rain, a phrase that sounds like the opening of a grim, Anglo-Saxon lyric.

The trees are coming into their winter bareness, the only green is the lichen on their branches. Against the hemlocks, the rain is falling in dim, straight lines. The sugar maples on the far edge of the pasture have nothing to say about the rain, only the wind. This is the time of year when all the houses have come out of the woods, edging closer to the roads as if for company.

The Avraham Yonah Reading Group

There are many people in our community who are home bound or for various reasons cannot get out often and seldom have visitors. The Avraham Yonah Reading Group is a volunteer group consisting mostly of women, who go to these peoples homes and read to them. It gives these individuals an opportunity to make friends, have consistent visitors and know that others care about them.

The organization is intended to help people who are home bound, elderly, ill and in treatment or anyone else who may benefit from this service. Volunteers will visit the individuals home for approximately 1/2 - 1 hour, and will either read a book, learn Torah, play a game or just talk with the person depending on their preference. There will be a different volunteer going each day of the week, depending on how many days are requested by the person in need. It is hoped that each volunteer will continue to visit on the same day of every week.

If you know of anyone who could benefit from this service, please contact us.

We hope you will be interested in volunteering to be a part of this wonderful chessed and join us in reaching out to our friends and neighbors who are in need and hopefully making a difference in their lives.
