IS THERE SOMEONE ELSE UP THERE?
By: Suri Stern
If only I could have made it to all the wonderful shiurim at Ohel Sara Amen Group this week, with an all-star cast of brilliant rabbanim and lecturers.
Alas, I made it to two of the lectures, the first by Dr. Mina Glick on L'Dovid Hashem Ori and the second by Rabbi Emeritus, Rabbi Ralph Pelcovitz on "Teshuva: An Answer or Repentance." The two have been stewing and fermenting, in me like the brine in fresh sauerkraut. LOL.
The title to this article is a punch line by Rabbi Pelcovitz in the following witticism:
A man is on a mountain and falls into a precipice. As he is falling, he cries out, "is there anyone up there?" Silence. Again, he asks "is there anyone up there?" A voice reaches out to him saying "don't worry, come to me, up to heaven." The man replies, "is there anyone else up there?"
How does it connect to L'Dovid Hashem Ori, G-d you are my light and savior, I have no fear? CLICK HERE FOR MORE Fall Schedule Coming Soon

The Litmus Test By - Joel Moskowitz I used to have a boss, I'll call him Al, who made my life miserable. I remember waking up one night, shaking and crying. My wife had never seen me like that and of course wanted to know what was wrong. I told her that I didn't know if I can take another day of Al, it was that bad. Luckily, she talked me down from the ledge and I returned to work, I even survived Al for another year or so before I moved on to bigger and better things. That experience triggered something in me that lasted for quite a few years after Al. I called it the Al Litmus Test. You see Yom Kippur offers Jews an opportunity to clean the slate, recharge, do-over, hit the reset button. But the reset comes with a price.

You've done it!
You've made it through the first leg of the triumvirate.
Sure we are all familiar with the Shalosh Rigalim (Succoth, Passover, Shevuoth). That's some big threesome! But truly there is like all these other threesomes...for instance, Rosh Hashana, Yom Kipper, Succoth are like one threesome. And even within Succoth we've got the 1st days, the middle days, and the last days. There, that's another threesome. And even within the last days of Succoth we've got Hoshana Rabbah, Shimeni Atzeret and Simchat Torah. .
This year we've even got 3 meals a day, for 3 days, on 3 separate holidays in a row. (Thankfully we get to fast and take a breather in the middle).
Now I'm not saying these are not important meaningful days. I am just saying all this can get overwhelming. So how do we get through it better?

Always Remember Mr. Kresch had borrowed money from a lot of people and he just could not pay them back. One of them was his close friend, Rosenkranz. Rosenkranz felt bad for Kresch. Kresch was being confronted by his creditors wherever he went. He had no peace. So Rosenkranz said to Kresch, "You can't go on this way. When someone asks for their money, act crazy. Just make believe you have gone mad. Foam at the mouth, roll around on the floor. People will give up and they'll leave you alone." Kresch took Rosenkranz's advice and it worked really well. He'd act completely crazy and people would give up on collecting their debts from him and they left him alone. One day, Rosenkranz went to see Kresch to collect his, Rosenkranz's money. Kresch heard what Rosenkranz wanted and started foaming at the mouth and tossing about on the floor. Rosenkranz said to him, "I gave you that advice; it was my idea that you act crazy! Now you are using it on me?" For The Rest of this article Please Click Here

The Avraham Yonah Reading Group
There are many people in our community who are home bound or for various reasons cannot get out often and seldom have visitors. The Avraham Yonah Reading Group is a volunteer group consisting mostly of women, who go to these peoples homes and read to them. It gives these individuals an opportunity to make friends, have consistent visitors and know that others care about them.
The organization is intended to help people who are home bound, elderly, ill and in treatment or anyone else who may benefit from this service. Volunteers will visit the individuals home for approximately 1/2 - 1 hour, and will either read a book, learn Torah, play a game or just talk with the person depending on their preference. There will be a different volunteer going each day of the week, depending on how many days are requested by the person in need. It is hoped that each volunteer will continue to visit on the same day of every week.
If you know of anyone who could benefit from this service, please contact us.
We hope you will be interested in volunteering to be a part of this wonderful chessed and join us in reaching out to our friends and neighbors who are in need and hopefully making a difference in their lives.
