Hi everyone and welcome to Week 2 of the AOK program beginning Sunday

September 4, 2011.

This week theme is about appreciating others.

What better way to follow up with this idea than encouraging

us all to appreciate everyone we come in contact with.

In Chovos Halvovos (10:7) it says that whenever our mind is free we

should make a conscious effort to focus on the good that Hashem has

bestowed upon us.  Focusing on what we have and being thankful for it

is an incredibly powerful tool for happiness and connection.  When we

think of all we have and feel thankful, we see the world in a different

light.  Rather than becoming depressed about what we lack, we focus on

the bounty of good that has been bestowed upon us and suddenly feel

blessed, exhilarated and fortunate.  Not only does this work with our

relationship with Hashem but with others as well.  When we express our

appreciation to others for anything they do we accomplish at least two

things; an appreciation for the good in our lives and giving the other

person a feeling of being appreciated.  When others feel our

appreciation, they feel good about themselves and want to do more acts

of loving kindness because it created good will and feeling.  Our goal

this week is to focus on the good that is done all around us and for us.

Thank you very much!

THERE IS A WELL KNOWN CONCEPT IN THE

JEWISH NEW YEAR:  TESHUVAH, TEFILAH AND TZEDAKAH

MAAVIRIN AT ROAH HAGIZAYRAH.

Translated:  Repentance, prayer and

Charity ameliorate a harsh decree from heaven.

We address the component of Tefilah when we say Tehilim for

those who are ill on our Aviva Aryeh, AH Tehilim list.

We address the component of Teshuvah, when we reach out to others

in positiive way that is Mikadesh Shame Shamayim, that sanctifies G-d's name,

and brings unity to our fellow Jews.  We repent for Sinat Chinam/baseless hatred

that destroyed our temple.  We do this as part of our Sarit Marton, AH Ahavas Yisrael

Initiative.

1. A Song of Maalot. I will lift up my eyes to the mountains. From where does my help come? 2. My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth!
