Dear ,
Should you know exactly which category your book falls into before you write it? Will this knowledge help you pitch your book to agents and editors?
Elisa Lorello, author of Faking It and Ordinary World, kicks off her blog tour today by discussing genres! Chick lit vs. women's fiction, literary vs. popular--the debate goes on. And what in the heck is a "dramedy"? If you're wondering how to categorize your novel, or if you should categorize it at all, join in on this fascinating discussion at The Muffin and voice your opinion.
How the discussion started: For the past 18 months, Jodi Webb, WOW's blog tour manager, has been writing a World War II novel and telling people it's "historical fiction." Imagine her surprise when her agent told her that books only qualify as historical fiction if they take place before World Ward II! So, to gain some enlightenment, Jodi decided to ask Elisa a few questions about book categories, shelf placement, and genres. Elisa was the perfect person to ask. She's the author of 2 novels, both Amazon Kindle bestsellers, which fall into the categories of contemporary romance, chick lit, women's fiction, humor: love, sex & marriage, and even genre fiction (according to Amazon). She shares her personal experiences and knowledge today with WOW! readers.
We also share a fantastic video of Elisa reading from her novel Ordinary World. After listening to the excerpt, you'll definitely want to read the book! She's such a great writer--funny, too--so be sure to stop by The Muffin today and ask her a question or leave a comment. Those that comment will be entered to win a signed copy of Ordinary World. Elisa will be checking in to answer your questions, so be sure to take advantage of this opportunity!
Also, be sure to check out the blog stops in the section below. We received so many requests to host Elisa that her tour is now completely booked--and the participating blogs are phenomenal! But if you have a blog and want to join in on our blog tours, check out our upcoming authors in the section below and e-mail us with your request.
Let's meet the author, shall we?

About Elisa:
Elisa Lorello grew up on Long Island, NY as the baby to six older siblings. Growing up during the '80s, Elisa covered her walls with Duran Duran posters and used lots of hairspray. She explored many passions, including drawing, tennis, and music, but in her early 20's, exercised her gossiping skills while working as a manucurist.
In 1995, Elisa left Long Island to attend the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth for both her bachelor and master's degrees. In 2000, as part of her graduate education in Professional Writing, she became a teaching associate, and met two professors of rhetoric and composition who took her under their wings. This union of teaching, rhetoric, and writing ultimately became Elisa's calling, and remains so to this day. She now lives in North Carolina where she teaches academic writing at North Carolina State.
In 2004, Elisa began her first novel Faking It. Since then, Elisa has written a sequel, Ordinary World, and is currently co-writing a third novel with friend and former student S.R. Paquette. That is, when she can tear herself away from her favorite form of entertainment--Facebook.

Ordinary World A novel by Elisa Lorello
Andi Vanzant had everything she wanted--a husband, a home, a job she loved, a cat named Donny Most. Then a drunk college student plowed into her husband's car and she lost everything...except the cat.
Andi's faced with a nightmare world and the work of trying to transform it into an ordinary world. She's certain that life will never be ordinary again but begins to find her way with the help of an unlikely support group that spans the world--a widowed mother on Long Island, a supportive boss in Massachusetts, an old boyfriend in Italy, and a fortune telling housewife in Peru.
Ordinary World is the story of a woman accepting losses and embracing gifts. To some degree it is the story every woman fears and every woman must some day live.
Genre: Chick Lit/Women's Fiction Paperback: 295 pages
Ordinary World is available through Barnes & Noble, Amazon as a Kindle Edition, on LuLu as a print edition, and in independent and chain bookstores. You can also read some chapters from Elisa's books by downloading a FREE e-book sample from her LuLu Store.

When Laura packed up the moving van it was to head to California

Writer's Program. Laura's writing life has included magazine writing, script
reading for production companies and literary agencies, leading writing workshops
and blogging about screenwriting and non-fiction writing. She's also written
some absolutely fabulous non-fiction books but sadly, as a ghost writer, she
has to keep the titles under wraps! Laura divides her time between Los Angeles
