Celia's (funny!) life story:
Celia Rivenbark was born and raised in Duplin County, NC, which had the distinction of being the nation's number 1 producer of hogs and turkeys during a brief, magical moment in the early 1980s.
Celia grew up in a small house in the country with a red barn out back that was populated by a couple of dozen lanky and unvaccinated cats. Her grandparents' house, just across the ditch, had the first indoor plumbing in Teachy, NC and family lore swears that people came from miles around just to watch the toilet flush.
Despite this proud plumbing tradition, Celia grew up without a washer and dryer. On every Sunday afternoon of her childhood, while her mama rested up from preparing a fried chicken and sweet potato casserole lunch, she, her sister and her daddy rode to the laundromat two miles away to do the weekly wash.
Late nights, she'd listen to the feed trucks rattle by on the highway and she'd go to sleep wondering what exotic cities those noisy trucks would be in by morning (Richmond? Atlanta? Charlotte?) Their headlights crawling across the walls of her little pink bedroom at the edge of a soybean field were like constellations pointing the way to a bigger life, a better place, a place where there wasn't so much turkey sh@# everywhere.
After a couple of years of college, Celia went to work for her hometown paper, the Wallace, NC Enterprise. The locals loved to say, as they renewed their "perscriptions," that "you can eat a pot of rice and read the Enterprise and go to bed with nothing on your stomach and nothing on your mind."
Mebbe. But Celia loved the Enterprise. Where else could you cover a dead body being hauled out of the river (alcohol was once again a contributing factor) in the morning and then write up weddings in the afternoon?
After eight years, however, taking front-page photos of the publisher shaking hands with other fez-wearing Shriners and tomatoes shaped like male "ginny-talia" was losing its appeal.
Celia went to work for the Wilmington, NC Morning Star after a savvy features editor was charmed by a lead paragraph in an Enterprise story about the rare birth of a mule: "Her mother was a nag and her father was a jackass."
The Morning Star was no News and Observer but it came out every day and Celia got to write weddings for 55,000 readers instead of 3,500, plus she got a paycheck every two weeks with that nifty New York Times logo on it.
After an unfortunate stint as a copy editor--her ass expanded to a good six ax handles across--Celia started writing a weekly humor column that fulfilled her lifelong dream of being paid to be a smart ass. Along the way, she won a bunch of press awards, including a national journalism award--hilarious when you consider she's never met a steamed vegetable she could keep down.
Having met and married a cute guy in sports, Celia found herself happily knocked up at age 40 and, after 21 years, she quit newspapering to stay home with her new baby girl.
After a year or so, she started using Sophie's two-hour naps to write a humor column from the mommie front lines for the Sun News in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The column continues to run weekly and is syndicated by the McClatchy-Tribune News Services.
In 2000, Coastal Carolina Press published a collection of Celia's columns. A Southeast Book Sellers Association best-seller, Bless Your Heart, Tramp was nominated for the James Thurber Prize in 2001. David Sedaris won. He wins everything.
Her second book, We're Just Like You, Only Prettier, published by St. Martin's Press in 2004, was the winner of the Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance Nonfiction Book of the Year and was a finalist for the James Thurber Prize for American Humor. Jon Stewart won. He and David Sedaris probably went out drinking afterwards. I'm sorry, did that sound bitter?
Her third book, Stop Dressing Your Six-Year-Old Like a Skank was named best title of 2006 by Entertainment Weekly magazine. Not best book, mind you, best title. Which it was. The title landed her a gig on Good Morning America where she kept stopping taping so she could flap her hands and go, "Ohmigod, Ohmigod" over and over again. Well. It was a big deal, that whole national TV thing. Southerners don't get that kind of fame unless they're describing yet another tornado rippin' through the Valley of Despair Mobile Home Park or some such.
Belle Weather Mostly Sunny With A Chance of Scattered Hissy Fits, published in 2006, included a home-improvement section in which Celia confided that she grew so accustomed to having workmen in her home during a kitchen renovation that she forgot they were there and pooted out loud once. Mortification ensued. The book, a Thurber Prize semi-finalist for humor, was one of three finalists for the SIBA Nonfiction Book of the Year. Instead they gave the award to Rick Bragg. Who already won a Pulitzer. Greedy, talented bastard.
Celia's newest book, You Can't Drink All Day If You Don't Start in the Mornin' includes riotously funny essays (if she does say so herself) and a bunch of proven Southern-style recipes that are slap-yo-mama-fine.
Celia lives in Wilmington, N.C., with her husband, Scott, Director of Government Relations for New Hanover Health Network and author of the true-crime bestseller, Innocent Victims. Their daughter, Sophie, attends middle school where she grudgingly wears a very uncool uniform. Mercifully, she hasn't asked her mama to stop writing stuff about her. When she does, let's face it, her mama is toast. In her spare time, Celia enjoys bringing all people of the world together in harmony. OK, not really. She mostly justs sits around watching old Gilmore Girls episodes and eating too much Taco Bell. Taco Bell rocks, y'all. I mean, a FOURTH MEAL? It's about damn time.
She reports that the proudest day of her life was the one in which the Sears truck showed up to deliver a matching washer and dryer and neither one of 'em had to go on the front porch.

 Tour Dates: September 14, 2009 - October 14, 2009
Title: Original Faith: What Your Life is Trying to Tell You
Author: Paul Maurice Martin
Genre: Nonfiction/Self-Help/Spirituality/Disabilities
Synopsis: Original Faith is about finding a language to begin
sharing the passion and purpose that connects progressives from every
walk of life around the world. Finding the willingness to change
ourselves for the better so that we're better equipped to help provide
a world of possibility and promise for all our children. The stakes are
high. It has become a matter of humanity's overall quality of life and
possibly our survival.
With an Original Faith...
- There is a love that can be known and understood - if not fully, then in part.
- There is faith that can be experienced - with or without belief.
- There is work - and even dedication.
- There is the discovery that every one of us is more than a self alone.
- There is coming alive to the fact that we are here not to be served, but to serve.
- There is the possibility of true joy and a viable future for our children.
- There is the certainty of personal peace and integrity.
Original Faith looks at faith and spiritual life from a fresh,
thoughtful point of view. In evocative and moving language, the book
references direct experience, not doctrine. This approach enlivens the
believer's awareness of faith while bringing the faith dimension of
experience to the attention of nonbelievers.
Paul Maurice Martin's
qualifications are both personal and academic. They include an M.A. in
Religious Studies from the University of Chicago; fifteen years of a
rare progressive illness that has left him mostly bedridden; and a
spontaneous religious experience that was the genesis of Original
Faith. The book's topics include love, ego, despair, faith and identity
transformation. Martin's suggestions for practice are varied and wide
ranging, allowing readers to integrate them with their own lives to
help realize their potential for constructive and creative action.
Original Faith's perspective is that we are not here to search for
meaning, but to help create it.
About the Author:
Paul M. Martin writes with exceptional clarity about spiritual matters.
His depth and breadth of first-hand experience allows him to speak
compellingly to people across a wide range of perspectives on religion
and spirituality.
Paul holds an M.A.
in religious studies from the University of Chicago divinity school and
an M.Ed. in counseling from the University of New Hampshire.
The manuscript for Original Faith took shape as a series of
experiences and insights that arose spontaneously over a period of
fifteen years. Instead of the proverbial 99 percent perspiration and 1
percent inspiration, the figures for Paul may have been about 50
percent each. Although he had to work hard to organize his material and
articulate it clearly, his experiences, concepts and even his best
language would arrive unexpectedly. Paul learned to keep a notepad in
his car and by his bed. Much of the text was composed and committed to
memory literally on the run, while jogging. Often he would be inspired
by the words or actions of children and quickly jot down a few notes
for reference the next morning - early morning. Paul rose at 2 or 3 AM
to write before heading for work, having found that after work was not
a creative time of day for him.
By 1994 Original Faith was nearly finished - and so was
Paul's good health. The sudden onset of an unknown autoimmune disease
initiated an unsuccessful struggle to obtain a diagnosis and treatment
that lasted over a decade. During this period Paul continued working as
an elementary school counselor but had to put his manuscript aside to
make time for medical travel, research, ongoing treatment attempts, and
ongoing problems posed by his health insurance.
After becoming too disabled to continue his career, Paul resumed work on Original Faith,
completing the manuscript in December, 2004. Since then, he has
completed two additional manuscripts and is working on a third.
Housebound and semi-bedridden, Paul remains centered in a faith
perspective that he offers to readers as a source of tremendous joy
under favorable circumstances and tremendous strength under adversity. Author's Websites:

Title: The Sky Begins at Your Feet: A Memoir on Cancer, Community, and Coming Home to the Body
Author: Caryn Mirriam-Goldberg
Genre: Memoir
Synopsis: This tender but humorous memoir chronicles Caryn's tale of resiliency and love in the face of breast cancer. She braves breast cancer, the breast cancer genetic mutation and the loss of a parent by connecting with an eclectic Midwest community, the land and sky, and a body undergoing vast renovation. Along the way, she swims with stingrays in the Gulf of Mexico, searches for cream puffs for a Pennsylvania funeral, leads a group fighting to protect ecologically-essential land in Kansas, and helps students find their own voice in Vermont. In searching for a new definition of the erotic through our awareness of nature, this memoir illuminates how our bodies are our most local address on the earth.

Title: The Last Will Of Moira Leahy
Author: Therese Walsh
Genre: Fiction
Synopsis:
A LOST SHADOW
Moira
Leahy struggled growing up in her prodigious twin's shadow;
Maeve was always more talented, more daring, more fun.
In the autumn of the girls' sixteenth year, a secret
love tempted Moira, allowing her to have her own taste
of adventure, but it also damaged the intimate, intuitive
relationship she'd always shared with her sister. Though
Moira's adolescent struggles came to a tragic end nearly
a decade ago, her brief flirtation with independence
will haunt her sister for years to come.
A LONE WOMAN
When Maeve Leahy lost her twin, she left home and buried
her fun-loving spirit to become a workaholic professor
of languages at a small college in upstate New York.
She lives a solitary life now, controlling what she
can and ignoring the rest--the recurring nightmares,
hallucinations about a child with red hair, the unquiet
sounds in her mind, her reflection in the mirror. It
doesn't help that her mother avoids her, her best friend
questions her sanity, and her not-quite boyfriend has
left the country. But at least her life is ordered.
Exactly how she wants it.
A SHARED PAST
Until one night at an auction when Maeve wins a keris, a
Javanese dagger that reminds her of her lost youth, and
happier days playing pirates with Moira in their father's
boat. Days later, a book on weaponry is nailed to her
office door, followed by anonymous notes, including one
that invites her to Rome to learn more about the blade
and its legendary properties. Opening her heart and mind
to possibility, Maeve accepts the invitation, and with
it, a window into her past. Ultimately she will revisit
the tragic November night that shaped her and Moira's
destinies, and learn that nothing can be taken at face
value, as one sister emerges whole and the other's score
is finally settled. About the Author:
Therese Walsh's debut novel, The Last Will of
Moira Leahy, will be published on October 13th,
2009 by Shaye Areheart books (Random House). She's
currently hard at work on her second novel-another
story about self-discovery, acceptance and magical
journeys-at her home in upstate New York.

Title: The Secret of the Sacred Scarab
Author: Fiona Ingram
Genre: Children's Fiction (Ages 9-12)
Synopsis: A 5000-year-old mystery comes to life when a scruffy peddler gives Adam
and Justin Sinclair an old Egyptian scarab on their very first day in
Egypt. Only when the evil Dr. Faisal Khalid shows a particular interest
in the cousins and their scarab, do the boys realise they are in
terrible danger.
Dr. Khalid wants the relic at all costs. Justin and Adam embark upon
the adventure of a lifetime, taking them down the Nile and across the
harsh desert in their search for the legendary tomb of the Scarab King,
an ancient Egyptian ruler. They are plunged into a whirlpool of
hazardous and mysterious events when Dr. Khalid kidnaps them.
They survive terrifying dangers in a hostile environment (such as a
giant cobra, as well as sinking sand), pursued by enemies in their
quest to solve the secret of the sacred scarab. They must translate the
hieroglyphic clues on the underside of the scarab, as well as rescue
the missing archaeologist James Kinnaird, and their friend, the
Egyptologist Ebrahim Faza, before time runs out.
They must also learn more about the ancient Seven Stones of Power and
the mysterious Shemsu-Hor. With just their wits, courage, and each
other, the boys manage to survive...only to find that the end of one
journey is the beginning of another!
About the Author:
Born in Durban, South Africa into a family of five reading and adventure were always a big part of Fiona's life. Fiona's book has been in the works since she developed a passion for Eygpt at the age of 8 after her mother gave her the encyclopedia Time-Life Ancient Eygpt. (She's also interested in Imperial Rome and Classical Greece--the two Time-Life books she shared with her older brother!). That passion led to a trip to Eygpt with her two nephews, a short story about Eygptian adventures, and ultimately a book--the first in a series called Chronicles of the Stone.
But it's been a long winding road to the release of Fiona's first book. Along the way she spent several years in France earning her Master's degree in French-African literature, teaching drama, working in community theater, and worked as a journalist. She now lives in Johannesburg where she's working on the next book in her series and planning her next trip--research for her books.
Fiona's nephews aren't the only family members who made it into her first book. Her pet mallard duck Charlemagne appears in the first chapters of The Secret of the Sacred Scarab. Charlemagne has embraced his newfound celebrity and even has his own Facebook page.

as various religious and spiritual messages, ancient philosophies,
fairytales and legends.
In the end, the young
woman learns the true value of size zero is indeed nothing.
About the Author:
Lisa
made a family road trip a little more interesting when she was 10 by
announcing that she had decided on her pee-u-da-name. After a moment of
silence her father asked if she meant pseudonym? Exactly! And the name
she had spent endless miles mulling over was Elizabeth Deane. Although
Elizabeth Deane has no bylines, Lisa de Nikolits--the name Lisa's
parents mulled over endlessly--has many.
At age 21 Lisa started
out as a feature writer at a South African magazine. After a few months
she was asked to pinch hit for the layout artist. She had found her
true love--she enjoyed designing pages, it was fun! So much fun that
she spent the next 20 years as art director for magazines including Vogue and Marie Claire.
But
one of the best things about her job was that she got to meet
remarkable women everyday. Women who were crying out to be written
about. So Lisa wrote. Late at night on borrowed typewriters and
eventually a dinosaur of a PC with orange type that flickered on a
black screen she captured the stories of the women who populated her
days.
Her short stories have appeared in various anthologies, her poetry received a bronze medal in Canada, and her book Single Girls Go Mad Sooner was published in 1995. Along
the way she's also dealt with the heartache of the book that went into
final proofs before the publisher shut down because of financial
troubles leaving Lisa's literary baby stranded. Despite setbacks, this
writer/art director/photographer who calls Toronto home is still "fired
up" with the help of her supportive parents, fiesty sister, and
companion and fellow photographer Bradford Dunlop.
