Greetings!
You may be wondering... what's an author's
staircase?
It's not something you can purchase for the
holidays, and
it's not something that you can casually approach
either.
This staircase can only be built with knowledge,
courage, and determination. A little imagination
doesn't hurt either!
As an author or aspiring author, we know it's a
climb to the top. There are many steps that come
with the process and many landings to rest on.
Whether it's screenplays, short story collections,
novels, or works in process, we hand-picked
qualified, yet diverse, women to interview. They all
have a story and a vision of what their dream
staircase would be. In asking one single question,
we can learn a lot about a person. Each one, equally
important, just as you are to us.
This is our fourth issue and a cause for
celebration!
Many exciting things have happened this past month
that we'd like to share with you:
- December marks the close of our very first
writing contest! Congratulations goes out to all
those who have participated. We will be publishing
the winners in our January issue.
- A warm welcome to the WOW! Family goes out to
new freelancers, D'Lynne Plummer and Ruth E.
Thaler - Carter. Great job ladies!
- We received some great feedback from you and
were able to respond personally to your e-mails.
It's been really great getting to know all of you.
- The interviews this month have been spectacular!
All of the women we've interviewed have shared their
heart and soul, just for you readers.
- We're in the process of expanding. That means
adding special features that we're sure you're going
to love.
- We've just slotted more openings for
freelancers, so get those fingers tapping and drop
us a line.
- The prizes for the contest have been stacking
up! We're receiving plenty of goodies from our
generous partners to share with our contestants.
(Shhh... it's a
secret)
We hope you enjoy this issue and we wish you all a
safe and happy holiday season.
Warmly,
Angela & Beryl
PS. Would you like to be published in the January
issue of WOW!? We're looking for book

HORIZONS by Mary Rosenblum |
|
This book by our friend and award winning author,
Mary Rosenblum is absolutely
wonderful! We just
can't begin to tell you how powerful the read is...
if you know Mary like we do, you'll want to check
out her latest book... and if you don't know her,
you're destined for a thrilling adventure! This is a
must read and a perfect gift!
From Publishers Weekly:
In this well-done tale of politics in near-Earth
orbit from Rosenblum (The Stone Garden), Ahni Huang,
a class nine empath, cyborg and daughter of the
ruler of Taiwan, has been sent up the space elevator
to the synchronous platform New York Up to avenge
the supposed murder of her brother. There she finds
herself enmeshed in a complex web of political
intrigue as various factions struggle for control of
the platform's future. She also meets Dane Nilson,
New York Up's charismatic chief agronomist, who sees
himself as the midwife to humanity's next
evolutionary step, and Koi, who may well be that
next step. The major plot threads—a space colony's
attempt to gain freedom from a domineering Earth
government, human distrust of the Other, the
importance of balancing the environment—aren't
particularly new, but the author uses them nicely to
create an entertaining tale. Rosenblum, who also
writes mysteries as Mary Freeman, provides a
fascinating picture of how humanity might develop in
zero gravity.
What people are saying:
"A sure winner...if you want to know what the future
might actually look like...this could be it." --
Nancy Kress
"A smart, sexy, and savvy future thriller from one
of the best new writers in science fiction, peopled
by real human characters with psychological
complexity and emotional depth, and driven by a plot
that races ahead like a runaway train." --
Gardner
Dozois

* How Amy Tan saved me from drowning... * |
|
Meeting Amy Tan was like a dream come true, and much
more.
When I was a young girl and read
The Joy
Luck Club it changed my life in more ways than
you can imagine. It's powerful when a book does that
to you, simply through words.
When we got
the call, saying that we could interview Amy that
very day, I was ecstatic, nervous, and extremely
excited. I knew that this interview would be special
in more ways than one; yet, how would I portray that
on internet-paper?
I battled with the
thought of
writing a commercial interview, but that
would be
cheating myself and you as well. I decided to share
my deeply personal experience with you, which in
itself is a gift that I can give to this
wonderful and amazing woman, Amy Tan.
