Greetings!

Happy spring everyone! Waking to the birds singing, the sun shining and green starting to show, we can be inspired by nature's signs of renewal.  With such a long, heavy, Colorado winter, there were days when we thought we'd never see green again. But yes, the daffodils are popping up through the spring snow and melt (and snow and melt and snow and melt...) giving us a fresh start.

Spring is indeed a time of renewal, and the FACC would like to inspire you and offer you and your business opportunities and support to reconnect with your clients and professional contacts.  Take the time to rekindle previous relationships and also make new ones this season to give your business a boost.
Attend our Euro Networking event this month for a great chance to meet new people and make new contacts while enjoying a fun atmosphere with food and drinks.

Other easy ideas for renewing your business contacts:
  • Send out a simple note of appreciation to current clients to reconnect with them personally
  • Choose 5 contacts with whom you have lost touch recently but are great people to know and send them a quick email to renew your connection
  • Renew your FACC membership and take advantage of all of the free benefits available to boost your business
We hope to see you soon!

Dynamic Materials Corporation
Based in Boulder, Colo., Dynamic Materials Corporation is an international metalworking company and the world's leading provider of explosion-welded clad metal plates.  The Company uses proprietary explosive processes to fuse dissimilar metals that, in many cases, cannot be joined using traditional welding applications.  These plates of bi-metals designed to withstand corrosion are utilized in the construction of pressure vessels, reactors, separators and other specialized industrial equipment.

This business segment, Explosive Metalworking, generates approximately 80 percent of the Company's revenue. It serves a wide variety of industries, including oil and gas refining, petrochemicals, alternative energy, hydrometallurgy, aluminum production, shipbuilding, power generation and industrial refrigeration. DMC operates explosion welding production facilities in Mt. Braddock, Penn.; Rivesaltes, France; Likenas, Sweden, and Wurgendorf, Germany.

DMC - shaped charges              DMC - sulfuric reactor

DMC operates two additional business segments: Oilfield Products and AMK Welding:
Based in Troisdorf, Germany, the Oilfield Products segment manufactures, markets and sells specialized explosive components and systems used to perforate oil and gas wells. In 2009 DMC acquired LRI an Edmonton, Canada based company that will expand the Oilfield Products activities in North America. DMC also operates in that segment several Joint Ventures in Russia and the CIS countries. AMK Welding is located in South Windsor, Conn., and utilizes various technologies to weld components for use in power-generation turbines, as well as commercial and military jet engines.

DMC has enjoyed several years of strong operational and financial growth with CAGR in excess of 40% culminating with sales of $233M in 2008. Following the global economic crisis company sales decreased to $165M in 2009. The company is profitable and continues to work on its strategy of global expansion for its key business segments of Explosive Metalworking and Oilfield Products.

Skill Building Business Breakfast:
"LinkedIn & Twitter 101"

The second in our series of Skill Building Business Breakfasts turned out to be a very popular topic and was sold out one week prior to the event. Yann Ropars of extanz.com gave a thorough overview of several social media tools, focusing on Linked in, Twitter and Facebook. Attendees asked many questions from the most basic - such as understanding the jargon - to more complex - like doing searches to "listen" to conversations. Everyone left with great tips and ideas on how to better use these tools to expand their current networks and promote their businesses.

One of the most important notes we took away from the workshop was to not focus on yourself or your business when you are posting tweets or discussions, but rather to find related topics, mentions and other information to share with your networks. This creates value and keeps friends/fans/connections/followers coming back and taking notice of you. We want to extend sincere thanks to our sponsors, Alliance Francaise and AmiCuisine, who, with their support, help us to continue to offer quality programs at little or no cost.
