CORA Past Event Reflection:

Back in March 2009, a French delegation made up of new energy technology experts from Grenoble-Isère spent a full week in Colorado. During the week of October 19, 2009, the Grenoble-Isère region welcomed key players from Colorado in order to continue their investigation of concrete partnership opportunities.  This initiative, aimed at both promoting the Grenoble-Isère region to Colorado representatives, and strengthening existing technological partnerships between the TENERRDIS renewable energycluster and NREL (The U.S. National Renewable Energy Laboratory), is piloted by AEPI (The Grenoble-Isère Economic Development Agency) and TENERRDIS, under the leadership of CORA (Colorado Rhône-Alpes Partnership).

The agenda for the Denver delegation, led by Bob Snyder, CORA President, included three strong themes:
  • One full day dedicated to solar PV
  • One full day dedicated to smart grids
  • VIP meetings with local authorities

The delegation spent their first day at the Rhône-Alpes regional headquarters. Next, they spent a full day at INES (The National Institute for Solar Energy) to meet with key solar PV players. The third day was dedicated to smartgrids at G2Elab at Grenoble INP (Grenoble Institute of Technology), including a visit of the PREDIS technological platform.

The Colorado delegation included the following members:
David Hiller, executive director of CREC (The Colorado Renewable Energy Collaboratory), NREL representatives including William Farris (vice-president for commercialization and technology transfer) and Ron Benioff (manager, international programs), as well as Sunil Cherian, CEO of Spirae, Inc.

"Facilitating exchanges between companies and research centers leverages the economic development of a region. AEPI is playing an active role in this partnership policy with specific strategic regions of the world. It was not by chance that we made the decision to engage ourselves within CORA, a talented partner in Colorado, a state which shares a significant number of similarities with the Rhône-Alpes region," declares Alain Cottalorda, president of AEPI.

"This visit is fully in line with the international strategy of the TENERRDIS cluster, whose objective is to network with the best laboratories in the world (in the United States of course, but also in Japan and the United Kingdom, as well). TENERRDIS, the cluster of reference for new energy technologies, and NREL, reference laboratory in this domain, are confirming today their willingness to further cooperate at a technological scale," declares Claude Graff, chairman of TENERRDIS and Executive VP, Renewable Energies at Schneider Electric. "It is an unprecedented event for TENERRDIS, which, having pioneered the cluster's international development, is helping the cluster to reap the benefits of its strategy today".

The visits to Colorado by representatives of TENERRDIS and the Grenoble-Isère research institutions highlighted the many research, industry and environmental values that our regions share, reports David Hiller, Director of the Colorado Renewable Energy Collaboratory, a research consortium of NREL and three universities. We are very pleased to bring leaders of Colorado's clean energy community here to France to continue this dialogue.  This busy week of formal and informal discussions among research and industrial leaders of both communities will chart a course to a future of cooperative research that will serve both nations and the world at large.

Interview With a Professional

Mr. Benoît Guin

2008 BeaujolaisBenoît Guin is the Principal of Amélie Company, an international marketing firm located in Denver's LoDo district. Using his knowledge of international marketing principles, Mr. Guin has assisted French organizations in developing and securing a foothold in the American marketplace. Maximizing the chances of the success of such foreign businesses situated locally remains his continual ambition.  In this interview, Mr. Guin shares some insights into current and successful marketing trends that could benefit your business as well.

FACC:  What are easy ways for a company to "position" itself without breaking the bank?

BG:  "Positioning" is coming up with an idea that's fresh and different from those in the existing market. Creating such new ideas or a new set of services must be appropriate to the needs of the local economy. Then, in order to improve a company's market position, these ideas or services must be properly developed.

FACC:  What is the most important thing a company can do during this down economy to get the most out of their marketing dollars?

BG:  There are two main criteria clients are seeking to satisfy during this crisis:  First, they prefer to see an immediate return on their advertising and marketing investment. The second factor involves the use of measurable tools, meaning that clients may more clearly see how their marketing dollars are working, which gives them the best chance of making more accurate and focused future marketing investments.

FACC:      What are some examples of this?

BG:  Two common examples are PR and online marketing. They are the areas where advertisers and brands are definitely willing to invest their marketing dollars in this down economy. PR has been filled recently by social marketing, or social media. Basically, this is blogging, Facebook pages, MySpace.com, Twitter, Flickr, etc. This social network of people with common ideas, common lifestyles, and common passions speak about common points. We subtly introduce advertising content relevant to the online conversation.  This method is booming today because this social networking dimension is totally adaptive to any product.

The other aspect is online marketing, which is comprised of two elements: Search Engine marketing which is immediately trackable, and Pay-Per-Click marketing, in which an advertiser pays only if the online user clicks on their internet link. One variation of this involves the web banner, an online advertising link for which the advertiser must pay despite its having only an incidental chance that any internet user will click on it.

Georges Duboeuf Declares 2009 Beaujolais Harvest
One of the Best in the Last 50 Years

New York, October 1 - Beaujolais wine producer Georges Duboeuf is ecstatic about this year's Beaujolais harvest now underway, predicting it is one of the best Beaujolais vintages in the last 50 years.

"We have had perfect weather with 50,000 grape pickers hard at work across the 3000 vineyards of Beaujolais since September 4. The grape bunches are small and bursting with sunshine, with a fine purplish back color and exceptionally rich in sugar. The berries are thick, and the seeds are a gorgeous amber color, a sign of perfect phenolic maturity.....Their brightness, intensity and, above all, their perfect health are really quite something to behold. We have not see anything like this for a long time," proclaimed Georges Duboeuf in his most recent harvest report dated September 18th.

Following the longtime French tradition of releasing Beaujolais Nouveau at one minute past midnight on the third Thursday in November, the 2009 vintage will be released November 19 with celebratory "Le Beaujolais Nouveau Est Arrive!" events taking place in New York, Miami, Las Vegas and several other locations, and restaurants offering everything from midnight pajama parties to special Beaujolais dinner menus. A new website, www.duboeufnouveau.com with information on Beaujolais Nouveau and arrival events around the U.S. will debut in October. [cont.]
